The last sentence is by far the most important.

Psa: do not get the superblast for easy runs it is priced as a supershoe but doesnt have any plates. Its a weird shoe not cheap enough as a daily not fast enough as a race

Also, pick up some good orthotic inserts and see if they work for you. From my own experience they’ve helped soooo much.

Go to a running store and get fitted. A good running store will have a treadmill and someone knowledgeable will tell you if you underpronate or overpronate. Based on this they can recommend a neutral shoe or a stability shoe and the major brands are probably going to have one for you.

Saucony a great brand! Used them when we ran cross country and that’s mostly what our coach bought us. Before then I’d use asics and they cool too.

My ultra boost give me sharp pains here n there for when I take funky steps so guess its time for some newer better running shoes, these served me well for almost 4 years

I like the Pegasus line because if you are a minimalist and you want a shoe that's all around it works. I hike, Run 10ks, Rap, travel & being a Dad I only need one shoe for each function but Reebok floatride, Hoka Mach 5 are also great alternatives But Alpha fly is my tested pick for "Only Race Day" & 1 mile Pace runs 🏃🏿‍♂️

It’s extremely important to get your gait analysis done and buy shoes for stability if you are overpronating or supinating. A wrong type of shoe will bring in heaps of injuries. I ran for over 8 months in a neutral shoe instead of stability shoes for overpronation. My knees always used to hurt, my shins were paining. Only after i switched the shoes i have started feeling much more comfortable and active. All the load that used to go to my knees and shins, now gets transferred to my quads, adductors and other muscles. and i feel relatively fresh after each run. Proper running shoes are as paramount as proper running form. Don’t get a shoe without gait analysis. You will thank yourself later.

not saying this works for everyone, but what worked for me was started running easy/light with a trainer/ shoe that i have at home.. I used Nike Zoom Structure 25 as my gym trainers, tried with that shoe for a month. They were quite old and it hurts my ankles and eventually i went to a running shoe store. If you can commit to 2-4 weeks consistent running, then you are ready to buy a running shoe.

They should invent a machine that simulates different shoes without telling you which is which. That way you’ll have the most unbiased opinion on which shoe to pick.

The saucony is a good choice. The Pegasus is a Brick!

This is a good list if you want to play dress up as a social media runfluencer. If you're an actual beginner who doesn't know what speed work is and are just trying to run 3 miles without feeling like you're dying, don't completely cheap out but I would say spending around $70-150 is adequate. Most people can handle neutral shoes. If you are heavier look for shoes with more cushioning. Shoes in that range will be just fine, even for half and full marathon distance.

Started running with a Pegasus. Went through Asics, New Balances, Saucony's, .. Came back to the reliable pegs.

Just started working at a running shoes store. You've given me some amazing pointers in 30 seconds, thank you so much for making this!

currently liking my altra escalante 4s for easy days, and endorphin speed 3s for speed days, but interested in those asics metaspeed skys. they're designed for competition, but would be great to try for speed days. they have less drop than the endorphins, and they are for us forefoot/mid strikers. some of the shoes on jeremy's list are heel shoes, so his choices are a little strange.
