Would love to know firstly how many and which shoes currently make up your rotation in the comments below…if you could only pick 2 shoes for the rest of your life what would they be?!

I've found having different shoes for different sessions helps keep things interesting too, especially if you're running the same routes regularly. Pulling on my speedy shoes almost helps with the mental preparation that you're going out there to go quick, and the soft shoes on recovery days feel like a nice treat.

neglecting any muscle" is spot on makes sense. Thanks

VJ spark for trail; Endorphin Speed for easy and tempos; Vaporfly and Metaspeed for intervals and races. Honestly there are so many great super-shoes, so you cant really go wrong with the big brands top dogs. However, for those that dont run as much or have a limited budget, the Speed v1 or 2 is an incredible option for everything.

I currently have a 3 shoe rotation:

Fast/Shorter Runs: Hoka Rincon 2
Daily Trainer: Reebok Floatride Energy 3
Trail Shoe: New Balance Nitrel V4

If I could only have 2 shoes for the rest of my life I’d probably grab a New Balance Rebel and an Asics Metaspeed Sky

Great video Ben!,

I currently have 4 shoes I run in
easy- Nike invincible
daily trainer- Hoka Mach 4
tempo- Endorphin pro 1
Race- Nike vaporfly 2

I love them all and use them all which I think has helped with injury and how I can keep my miles up.

I plan my shoe rotation along the same categories Ben! For me it's the Clifton on easy days, the Endorphin Speed 2 on tempo days, the Endorphin Pro 2 on long runs and track days. I race in the VaporFly2s. Keep pushing my friend!

Thanks Ben - you explained this so well as i was confused about this. So basically i run in Nike Peg 39 and recently purchased ON Cloudflow which are more for speed sessions as they are lighter than Peg39. The bit you mentioned about "using all muscle in leg to prevent injury" makes sense as one type of shoe means sometimes that muscle is not used as intended

Two shoes for the rest of my life, easy decision!

Saucony Endorphin Speed 2s and the Vaporfly

17 unique shoes in "rotation" but I benched my least favorite shoes for this marathon block. So currently 8. Pick Only 2? Endorphin Pro 2 and Kayano 28, but may change to the Tempus while in peak shape. Tempus for all Daily and Tempo. Pro 2 for all speed and racing. Pick only 1? Hoka Carbon X2. Not the fastest at all, but the most comfortable of all.

My current one for road

Daily trainer: NB Fuel Cell Propel
Tempo/Intervals: Puma Liberate Nitro / Adios 6
(Rincon 3 waiting to break in) -> will use for a mix of easy and intervals.

Previously for daily and easy I had Novablast 1 and Pegs 37.

If only to choose: Novablast 1 + Adios 6

I have 3 pairs of road shoes. Guide 15 for easy runs. Launch 8 GTS for speed work/parkrun and Pro 2s for race day. Also have a pair of Speedcross, for trails obviously!!

To answer your question, my current rotation is very simple use 3 of my 20 pairs . With an occasional wildcard
Daily-asics gel nimbus24
Speedwork-race saucony speed 3
Recovery/easy On Cloudmonster
Wildcard, whatever I feel like that day

Daily / Long-Run easy - FuelCell TC (W) - not as forgiving as a Rebel V2 and not nearly as spongy as ZoomX but enough FuelCell and plate helps miles ticking over
Tempo (short-distance) - Rebel V2 - marshmallow-like but toe rub kicks in hard after 5K
Tempo / Intervals (long-distance) - AlphaFly - bulky boy shoe but cushioning is unreal - slightly prefer vaporflies when cutting corners but this is a joy for leg recovery and short sprints
Track - New Balance 1500v6 (W) - lovely sock like upper and works well as a racing stability flat
Trail - Adidas Terrex Speed Ultra (W) - tremendous grip - been hill climbing, cave searching and wet stone running - cushions like an ultraboost and with less weight in women's
Raceday / PB Hunting - (5K and HM) - VaporFly - feels like a springboard that never seems to end - perhaps not as grippy as an AlphaFly on gravelly 5Ks but a joy to use

Great video as always Ben. I'm currently using Brooks Ghosts for easy/recovery/long, and Saucony Endorphin Speeds for tempo/speed/races. Thinking of getting Vaporfly for races...

Long runs/easy days: NB 1080 v12
Tempo/speed training: Saucony Endorphin Speed 2
Race Day: Alphafly

What would you recommend for cross country? Ie mixture of grass, slippery, muddy.
