Nobody in these cars ever seems to be in a hurry to get where they're going.

From what I've seen, the passenger accessible "pull over" button sends a REQUEST to the program to stop the vehicle. It does not provide unconditional human control over the vehicle. It is not an unconditional "manual override" or "manual stop".
It's a subroutine in the programming and programs can sometimes perform in unexpected ways due to programming errors, programmers that didn't consider certain inputs occurring at certain times, corrupted code (e.g. "flipped bits") due to power "glitches" or radio frequency interference from a powerful nearby transmitter, and other factors.

I can't pass the vision test and I'm also too low income to risk a single accident or repair bill. I can't afford Uber. I ride a bike and am not at all retired at 69. I also invented the first version in 1974 . So - I can't wait until they come to my location. The alternative requires a week in advance or volunteers. There is no better solution.

Any way you look at this it's Bad, Computers Driving Cars? and then it really goes rogue when it gets a mind of its own.

What a bunch of crap! Not only are you trusting your life to a computer, but your trusting that computer is not compromised by hacker or glitch! Absolute hazard! Not to mention its another thing taking American jobs nor does it financially benefit the local community as its not a local business!

They would ever work where it snows. Icy roads create bad drivers as it is.

2:00 "....I still trust it all the way..." ya, I do too...WHEN I'M IN IT! But when I'm on the ground around it I run for cover.

I'll never get in a self driving car. I'm good. I will deal with liability for my own actions.
A computer that fails or gets hacked can take a life now.
