Driverless Cruise car struck by San Francisco firetruck; passenger injured

A driverless Cruise car and a firetruck collided in San Francisco late Thursday night, sending one passenger to the hospital.

The fact that Cruise isn’t owning up to their fault (not having control for instances such as emergency vehicles) is enough in itself not to use Cruise. Just because the Cruise Car “entered the intersection on a green light” doesn’t mean they have the right of way. If it were a regular manned car then the driver would be liable.

A fire truck has the right of way…the fire truck is NOT at fault….a fire truck heading to a call shouldn’t have to watch out for stupid driverless cars.

I think the entire Cruise fleet needs to be suspended.

Reporter completely wrong regarding cars pulling over! Obviously, car did not pull over, stopped in middle of lane forcing emergency vehicle to pass in opposite lane

Got it! So the cruise vehicle didn’t yield or attempt to get out of the way of the EMERGENCY vehicle. Gotta love how the cruise company released the comment like they’re not at fault?! Being able to get out of the way of emergency vehicles is the responsibility of every vehicle on the road. If the company can’t figure out how to power a driverless car to do that function, sounds like they need to go back to the drawing board.

Fire truck could’ve avoided the accident, but 100% evs fault. Likely wouldn’t have been an issue with a human

It might have been free and clear but the cruise vehicle keeps going in front of the fire truck and or it delays in stopping after entering the intersection after the fire truck saw it was free and clear. You need two human factors in this situation, one will not do!
