People rush out of a shop in southern Philippines as items fall on the ground and electricity goes out after a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the archipelago's Mindanao island.

The Philippine Seismology Agency Phivolcs said the waves could hit the Philippines by midnight and continue for hours.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning System said there could be waves of up to 3 meters (10 feet) above the tide level along some Philippine coasts.

For a 7.6 earthquake that store was amazingly organized. Normally you'd see everything collapsing and they did a great job stacking and securing everything so
there wasn't the loss they could have suffered. You guys rock, hopefully everybody was okay. God bless all of you.

Well, the country is within the Ring of Fire.
I lived there almost 30 years but only remember one seriously damaging earthquake.

Heartfelt concern for the people in the Phillipines.

Good thing it was very short. If it were any longer, at 7.6 it would have done lots of damage and most likely we would have had lots of victims.

You'll never know what it exactly feels until you experience it. It was the scariest earthquake I've ever experienced, before the earthquake happens there were bad signs a strong lightning and thunder appeared like boom! Then the power went out after few minutes the power got back and sooner that there was a traumatic shaking of everything but thank God we are all safe but still scared from countless aftershocks this is the longest aftershocks I've ever had from the night time up to this 8 am in the morning.

I was stationed @ Clark AB in the PI long, long ago, and I recall several earthquakes being felt during my time there. In first one, I was driving towards the main gate, and I thought something was wrong with the suspension of my vehicle since it was bouncing up and down and side to side. I pulled over, and the shaking and bouncing didn't stop. Yes, it was scary for a US East Coaster.
