Survival Water Purification Collecting Dew

This video demonstrates how much water can be collected quickly and easily through dew collection. Its a tremendous method for safe drinking water in the wilderness.

Very possible that you could pick up something. If you have time its always best to purify it, but this really is a good way to get water at certain times of the year.

Thanks for the tip for dew collection, as I'd been looking for a better way to collect than using glass panes, or just shaking dew off brush into a bucket... I used a clean, unbleached cotton 'flour sack' towel & the water filtered out quite clear. Aside from being a good, reliable source of clean water, dew has some interesting properties. For instance, if you have some grass stains on fabric, leave the item out overnight for the dew it wet it & the stains will come out.

@canesser1 you couldn't gather any significant quantity by using that method without a ton of clothes, and not so sure about the pee and poop thing. All I can say is the water tastes great, no pee after flavor.

If you have the means you can make that water clear and safe by distillation. A small kettle as one of your pots can be very useful.

honestly i think that is a really good idea if you are anywhere with vegetation.

In some parts of the world, they have "dew collectors" set up and people collect the water in jugs in the morning... some set ups take up 1/2 the space of a clothing line but can give u 1-2 liters a day... and that's just automatic with no work.

I've seen a guy that attach a 3' rope to his bottle after collecting dew and swing it around for 3-minutes to settle the dirt particles for clearer water.

Question: What about picking up disease from bird droppings? Is this a possibility? It seems that you are covering enough ground by doing this, you are bound to be also be running over bird droppings.

Great idea in concept but would rather simply spread out those cloths on a simple wood frame and let the dew point do the work for me. That was a lot of insect poop and wildlife pee you scraped up there!
