Thank you. We are in Tampa Bay at 90' elevation with good culverts on either side of the home. The seamless gutters did a great job of moving the water into those culverts. With Debby the rain came sideways from due south. The office in our home faces direct south. The water was driven up against our home office. A 22"x22" square of carpet was wet next day. I had moved the shrubbery in front of the office and left a "bowl" for water. Next day in the rain I dug below the foundation, installed a French drain and with eight cubic feet of soil and some St. Augustine plugs have the area functioning as it should. We simply need an additional downspout in that corner. People without gutters had much worse issues with hydrostatic pressure in our neighborhood.

42 years in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale and now Tampa makes 56 years in areas where no name storms can do more water damage than hurricanes. The downspout shown is adequate to my needs and easily done. Thank you.

Showed me everything that I needed to know. Many, many thanks. Handyman gave me an estimate of $300. I did it for about $25 in parts.

My rule of thumb is whenever a handyman says it should take about 30 mins, I add 5 hours for me to do it...

Thanks for sharing. After watching this, I now know our supposed house we built over 20 years ago, has substandard gutters/downspouts as far as parts/installation go. Our builder touts themselves as "a cut above the average production builder". They used simple "gutter nails" to hang the gutters & didn't use ANY "petty drops" on the connections between the downspout and the gutter hole. They simply cut the hole in the gutter & folded the metal back to attach the downspout to.

its really cool how at the end of that downspout by the rocks the spout just turns directly against the wall towards that window. really nice touch and it will make that window fail within a month. The window gets to be a secondary gutter! fun stuff.

When I have rectangular downspouts, I use rectangular drops. I don't mix metals because I don't like corrosion. Ensure fasteners are designed for use with aluminum (if you have aluminum gutters & downspouts). I thoroughly clean & dry before sealing. I use fasteners in all the available holes.

Chuck thanks to your advice I believed that I could do it. We had a 19 ft seamless gutter hanging around so we put it on and added a downspout. No more dripping vinyl gutter. Awesome thanks so much.

Great video and simple explanation 👍🏼 the method with a holesaw cuts the time in half. And a multi tool does it even faster.

When you see granulation like that in your gutters you should check for a bacterial mat on your roof. It actually is eating at the granuals in your roofing. Stand across the street and look at your roof. If it looks to have darker streaks of has dark patches you have a bacterial mat. If you see green you have algae or lichen. Call a roof cleaner and they can kill all of it easily. This will extend the life of your roofing.
I do this professionally. And you will be stunned at the results when done correctly. You can do it yourself but the chemicals are expensive and is not pleasant to work with.

This is a great video. I appreciate the various constructive comments below, too, because they help clarify or perfect some of what's shown. Taken together, I'm feeling quite confident that this is something I can do (and trust me, that says a lot LOL).
