People here talking about US aid to Israel - it only amount to $350 per person in Israel ($3.5 billion divided by 10 million Israeli) - GDP per Capita in Israel is $43, 300 USD - therefore it is less than 1% of GDP - it doesn't make much difference at all. Furthermore the bulk of the Aid money is bilateral which means it must spent in the US and helps the US economy - it is essentially a welfare cheque written to the US defence industry every year.

Great video! just one thing, as an Israeli I am rather tired of hearing that I live in the desert. while 60% of israel is desert, the vast majority of the population lives in the other 40%, which is also where most of the agriculture happens(though its true that we invest a lot in irrigation technology and innovation).

Also while the government investment programs were very important as you outlined very accurately. another very important factor in Israeli economic and technologic success is actually tied to its army(which is mandatory). and that's because the army provides Israel's most talented youth intense tech training and experience they later bring to the civilian economy.

Simply accepted Modernity became an elite skilled force and then had experience building European Empires and industry in capitals like Paris, New York, Moscow, and London.
It is only natural that it is a successful project.

I heard that Israel has the third-highest number of patents in the world, after only the U.S. and Japan. That's amazing, given their small population.

Israel is NOT in the middle of the desert 😅
Only the southern part is desert. The northern part is green like Greece /Turkey /Italy.
Tel Aviv gets almost the same amount of rain as London

Yes, the Israel innovation & tech model can help my country, Nigeria, redeem its economy. Fortunately Nigeria is already replete with tech entrepreneurs. A little intervention from the government will go a long way towards making Nigeria a global reference point.

I'm Israeli and the majority of the country doesn't live in the desert. It's only in the south of the country but the central and northern regions have a lot of vegetation and rain

I've lived here in Israel (Tel Aviv - Jafo) for two years. I love the white-sand beaches on the Mediterranean, the old and new buildings, the amazing history, the many cute kids, large families and the friendly (except when they are driving 😂), English-speaking people. I wish Israel the very best for its future.

Very simplistic explanation. Just throwing government money at start-ups won't bring success. You need smart, motivated, driven engineers with great ideas and the capacity (some would say audacity) to create world-class products that can compete with entrenched global corporations. The success of the Israeli tech sector is due to many different factors, but more importantly, it's the people who work in that sector that made it successful.

1) Shimon Peres was only half of it. In 1984 he had a unity government with Yitzhak Shamir (Likud) and they both served as PMs in rotation. Perhaps such measures could only be done with a full House support.
2) Only a third of Israel is a desert.
3) You left out many important factors. Like the lack of resources (which helps to develop a tech market), many high skilled immigrants that came because of idiology or other reasons, especially from the USSR in the late 80s and during the 90s, the army that simple required all sort of inventions, and more...

1:00 Israel isn't purely in the desert. The Galilee and Coastal plains have historically been very fertile. It was historically called the land of milk and honey. There are farms in Gaza, the West Bank, and in the Jordan valley in Jordan

I forgot the biggest thing in Israel, embarrass the army. Israeli Army teaches people how to be successful. How to overcome objections, obstacles and difficulties. After 3 years or 4 years of this kind of training, the business Market is easy most Israelis get out of the army with the equivalent of an associate's in science degree.
