What to Do About Missing Waveforms in DaVinci Resolve

my biggest problem is that when trying to describe my issue, everyone assumes that I'm talking about this. I've checked this option, and moreover, some audio will have waveform while some doesn't. My issue (I believe) stems from the audio not showing up while the video is processing after adding it to the timeline, indicated by the red line above the timeline slowly turning blue. I BELIEVE that to be the issue, however I am unable to confirm, nor find a solution because every time I mention my issue, every assumes I mean I turned off waveforms, so I get directed to videos like this. So thank you, this is a good tutorial, short straight and to the point, but if anyone is reading this that can help me better understand what I'm looking for, I'd greatly appreciate some help

I just realized that what we are all doing here on these types of videos are the same thing we’ve been doing ever since we were kids first clicking around on computers trying to figure out how to make stuff happen, learning from things your friends have heard, and what sort of workarounds they were able to find to enable this or that function on the limited hardware.

I always thought that the pros would never have any questions, or the adults would never have any mysteries as far as the functionality of these systems, but while it can be infuriating at times, it is also strangely comforting to know that we are all still those children, poking around on computers, seeing what might hide behind the next install window or glitch in a CD ROM.

I just had this issue - for me, changing the height of the audio clip brought it back. Like it gave it a kick up the backside! I wouldn't have known how to do that without this video, so thank you

Nope. That's not the problem. I realized that you wouldn't have the solution when I noticed that before you clicked on that icon, there was no line in your audio track. The problem is that when that icon has been clicked, the waveform still doesn't show up, just the line. By the way, the waveform does show up when it is first added. But after an editing session has been finished and the project saved, the waveform doesn't appear when it is opened for the next editing session.

Simply clicking on the "Timeline view options" has made them re-appear! Thank you! :)

Didn´t solve my problem on the audio options but it did in the timeline option so you were on the right direction, sadly i think i will keep using vegas, you cannot use mouse wheel to see the whole project, you don´t see audio leveling up while all the tracks are being listening in order to know wich one of them are pretty high or have very low volume, yeah i know, use your ears to do that, it´s stupid but i think seeing waveforms working while you see your videos is better than just earing them, with that you will know if it´s way high or not in terms of volume like for example green to red.

Thank you so much for posting this! I just edited down 6 hours of footage for an instructional to 30 minutes and was going back to adjust the audio and the wave forms in editor were gone. This fixed it. I also had to click "thumb" in video options as well because I guess the "film" setting temporarily glitched the wave forms from showing.
