Caucasian Canadian home here: ya, all these are relatable to me too. Had to walk FIFTEEN MILES (not kilometres) in the snow with sandwich bags as shoes. My dad may not have claimed top of the class but he’d express that oh so devastating disappointment that I couldn’t measure up to even his lowered standard, and of course if your life pay didn’t involve the trades there was just no understanding there..
