A common mistake dog owners make is avoiding crate training, fearing their dog will freak out. But locking your dog in a room or leaving them loose in the house can result in serious destruction and danger. Crate training, done right from an early age, helps your dog feel secure and avoid hazardous behavior like chewing on walls or ingesting dangerous objects.

Learn why crate training is a safer, more peaceful solution for both you and your dog.

When I got my dog the first thing I did was crate train her. Heck, she knew straight away that it was a safe place to be. She has since outgrown it and now has a normal dog bed

I’m here to share with other dog owners that I got my dog back in June 2023. He was five months old when my husband and I got him. Night 1 of him being in our home, we create trained him. Did he scream and cry? Absolutely. Did we have to go out and reassure him several times in the night from the other room? Yes. That lasted for about two weeks. Flash Forward to today, he is 100% crate trained now. He knows to go in when I leave to go run an errand, he happily goes into it at night when it’s time for bed. I had to be very consistent with him, but he never cries going into the crate! I’m here to assure new owners that crate training can be a little scary but be patient. Your dog will understand that the crate is safe eventually. You got this! ❤

I love showing off how my dogs enjoy and relax in their crates to show how beneficial crates are. I wish more people trained their dogs with them.

You are right 💯%. My daughter came back home with he rescue Pitador. She was rescued at the age of 18 months. I had a large crate from my male lab. I cleaned it and pottied trained her, crate trained her. She is 13 now, has full range of the house, but she always stays in her crate. The door is always open. Dogs are Denning animals. She has never messed in my house. She also has an egg crate mattress in her crate. Honestly, she is perfect! She does have arthritis, she is being treated for it. She used to sleep with me, but can't jump on the bed anymore. I even put a mattress at the foot of my bed. I find her there some nights, in her crate most nights. It's her safe haven.

We’ve always had my Aussie crate trained. I’m grateful the breeders we bought her from also crated them up at night (they live on a ranch). So when she came home to us, her crate wasn’t scary. It was her home where kids couldn’t bother her. And she was safe!

Day 1 as soon as I brought my puppy home she went in the crate. At first she was terrified of it, but I spent a lot of time “accidentally” throwing toys and treats in there. Now all I have to say is “bed” and she climbs in no problem. I love your courses! They helped me so much!!

My dogs love their crate. I don’t lock them in hardly ever but they often choose to go hang out in their crates and will go to them if told to.

We did adopt a dog that actually ate the insulation off the hot water heater when left alone and locked in the basement. He was lucky he did not experience complications. We didn’t have those issues once we adopted him.

Absolutely. My dog likes her crate and nearly crate trained herself. She rarely goes in there now her behaviors are under control, and when she does, it’s on her own free will. So, train the dog so the dog can have freedoms.

Yeah I agree. Wish I had crate trained my dogs. One ate through TWO drywall walls, and the other ate the corner of one. They don’t have separation anxiety now and are angels inside. I worked hard with them to correct that. Prob wouldn’t have had to work a fraction as hard if I had crate trained them!

I crate train ever dog I have owned. My current GSD was crate trained when we got him at 2 months. He will be 3 next Saturday and even if we let him roam while running errands, he will lay in his crate. He willingly goes to it every time. I will always recommend crate training to dog owners.

My dog gets the run of the house when I’m gone. He’s super chill and fully can be trusted. Plus he’s added security to keep any bad guys out. He earns his keep.

Never had an issue with out crate training (except at night for potty training)… until my wonderful GSD Magnus (my 6th GSD puppy)… he was fine for 2 months… and then one day he found great interest in the carpet… a $3500 carpet replacement install later, and he went to he spot every time we left in the Kitchen. lol. He was great in there. We had his bed, a baby gate he couldn’t get over and water. We could see him just chilling out on the camera. Now he’s 2, and while he will still go to his spot, since he has his favorite bff to keep him entertained he no longer needs to go there.

My pup loves his crate...he'll even go in it on his own to nap sometimes. Love knowing he's safe when I have to leave him❤

Our dogs all love their crates. They put themselves in when they know we are going out. They put themselves to bed. The older ones take breaks from the younger ones, it’s private property and the pups learn early that is unacceptable to annoy the occupants. Best thing ever since we know everyone is safe and they feel secure.

Even my cats are crate trained!

It makes life simpler and safer for everyone ❤ they all know (cats and dog) that the crate/pet carrier is where they get to eat nice goodies and have their own safe space.

My dog never did a mess if I left him in my room... ok as a puppy he did chew on my blanket, but we did some behaviour correction training and he started chewing on only toys from then on... he is 2 years old now and he is behaving perfectly in the house, never goes to bathroom inside, always shows me when he needs to do it, so I let him outside, and he never chewed on anything other than his toys from when he was 4 months old❤

We trained a 3 year old cat to love going in his cage for overnight. That's where he got his supper every night and he was perfectly happy to spend the night there. So it's perfectly possible to help a puppy love his crate too.

I crate trained our 6 month old boxer pit mix. He was a power chewer. We got him a chewer proof bed for the cage and he chewed through it. He chewed up a few things I'm just glad he finally stopped. He's now 11 thank God
