Crate training has paid off especially when we have to move houses. Our dogs get really stressful about moving but having their "bedroom" that is exactly the same in every house has been HUGELY beneficial

My dog has her 'Bedroom'. It is always the same, it has her toys and her blankies. I can take her overnight ANYWHERE because she knows her 'room' is time for sleep(just like at home). It's absolutely wonderful to have a crate trained dog.

My dog had no self control- had a rough, rough past before being rescued. He would get himself so worked up he couldn’t get comfortable, couldn’t calm down. The crate TAUGHT him how to self control. Now he can actually be around people, actually play, actually be a part of life because crate training taught him how to relax rather than make himself neurotic. And it translates everywhere. He’s much more capable of being calm because he’s gotten practice being calm.

As a puppy foster we crate train everyone before adoption. It really does make for a better transition into a new home, giving them a safe spot to rest and retreat when they get overwhelmed while acclimating to their new environment.

Honestly such a helpful explanation - thank you Tom! Love these shorts, they're really great for bite-sized dog training education.

Crate trained my doberman a decade ago, best time investment. It potty trained her, made her obedient and kept her safe when she was a pup and we had to step out

I didn’t do the reward system and I was closing the gate relatively quick. And this is with a baby FRENCHIE. In my opinion, it’s about getting them familiar immediately so they know the drill and that’s how the house is ran. I always give him treats but I’m trying to make it into something that’s second nature without him thinking if he’s doing a bad job at least.

I can't imagine having a dog not be crate trained. It's just something we've always done. It's safer for the dogs, and there are sooo many situations where you might need to manage your dog - even just for a few minutes. Being able to pop them into the crate with no fuss makes things like answering the door so much easier. Door bell rings, all 4 dogs are set off barking and at the door. "Go to bed" and they all make their way to their crates so we can let people into the house without all the craziness!

Very very grateful our breeder was already crating the mother and puppies so he was already used to it. Crate training has been amazing for our dog 🐶

I have a 4 year old boy that I had to start crating recently because of an injury. He has never been crated before so I was a little worried how he might do, but he seems to actually enjoy it. It's his own safespace that noone else can go into and he likes chilling in it now 😁

If ONLY my family would follow this!!! I live with my parents, whom I do love so very dearly, but they have NO consistency or boundaries for Panda. He is a rat terrier/blue heeler mix, so needless to say, he is a firecracker! He is a brilliant dog that needs tons of stimulation to keep out of trouble. LOL! I have done training with him from what I have learned online and with what little means i have available. But there is only so much that can be done when everyone involved isnt on the same page. Hell, they arent even on the same book as me AND its a different language 😅😑🤦🏻‍♀️ Im so thankful that i have found you. You sir are a good human!!!❤

My dog gets worked up and barks in the crate and starts chewing the bed. If he isn't in it he is relaxed and chilling on the floor. Cold floor is the best safe space for my Husky!

I have a newly 3yr old Male GSD. He was raised during covid. His original family took quarantine seriously and never had him around others or socialized him. I took him on with knowing a little of his history. We are a social family and now we can’t have people here, freely. He had bit my neighbor who is 13, nipped at my daughters other friend, and lunged at my 20yr old son WHO LIVES HERE, and attempted to bite. He didn’t make contact. He forgets who’s in the house and becomes startled. Almost like he forgets who he has met 15+ times. Even ones he has snuggled and spent time with. Now, he is possessive of me since I’m his #1 care giver and play mate.
I have a muzzle which I am working on the training. He HAS graduated the 2 week obedience school. He is wonderful at command. It’s that fear, he is so reactive, un socialized and protectiveness. He has a sense he feels with people being nervous. I’m in way over my head!!! Gosh, I wish I had you near by to help! He is big and strong! Combined with his old family and myself, he has bitten 4 times.

Is there a way for myself to locate and seek help from you. I’m committed to helping him be successful. I just don’t have the professional knowledge. The last trainer did nothing! No change!

I’m sending a
Shari!

You are amazing! I watch and adore your knowledge! I need your help! 🙏🏼

I see the crate as a child' s playpen.

On a side note I was working with a boxer. My border collie mix would work both latches, releasing the boxer.

Crate training is unheard of in South Africa. Consensus is that you have a yard for your dog and more and more people allow their dogs indoors.
