Most leeches won’t bite thru a pair of reasonable hiking socks. They prefer exposed skin. Important to spray insect repellent on your shoes and socks. This will deter leeches.

Are there leeches the carry smaller ones? Cause once I found one one my leg (thankfully it didn't bite me yet) I took it off with my hand and there were smaller tiny leeches that looked just like the one at 2:17 on the back of my hand that detached from the bigger one
