I’ve had a leech on my foot in a lake and it was so scary and I didn’t even feel it go on me and it was taking my blood and I had no towel or anything to wipe my blood up :’( and to this day my dad calls that leech my best friend :’(

We used to use pharmaceutical leaches to reattach fingers etc because they secrete a anticoagulant and decrease inflammation and swelling that would impair blood flow to digits. When they are full they unattach themselves and hopefully you can catch them before they start to take off. Poor things, when they are done we put them in alcohol where they die releasing the blood 🩸. That’s what I did as an ICU nurse.

I remember when I was little a leech latched onto my leg while swimming, my dad hooked his fishing rod to it and casted away. Hurt like hell but hey the leech wasn't on me no more 😅

i actually have a pet leech and help research their behaviour as a hobby! here is a fun fact: there is a trait we call "chewers" wherein some domestic leeches will latch on and chew for the duration of their feeding. It appears to be somehow genetic, and we believe it's more common in domestic/commercial leeches because it HURTS LIKE SHIT!! (i have a chewer leech) and would draw too much attention if the leech was feeding in the wild.

I've been bitten by leech 4 times, It actually painful when it happens in your shoulders than in your palm or forearm. I had 3 bites on my leg and 1 on my shoulders and the most painful was in my shoulder. All the 4 times was during while bathing in river and what you need to do is either add salt to the mouth of the liver or literally burn your skin and the leech falls off.
