Broken Timeline: 5 Unexplained Ancient Artifacts That Suggest Dinosaurs & Humans Crossed Paths

In the depths of Cambodia's jungle lies the ancient temple of Ta Prohm, where an unexplained carving challenges the boundaries of time. Amongst the intricate reliefs, one image stands out, strikingly resembling a stegosaurus. This perplexing image fuels debates among scientists and historians while inspiring alternative theories of human history.

Built near the iconic city of Angkor Thom during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, Ta Prohm was once a bustling Buddhist monastery and center of learning during the 12th and 13th centuries. The temple housed over 12,500 individuals, including 615 dancers, 18 high priests, and 2,700 officials. Its storied history of growth and prosperity is etched into the countless carvings and reliefs adorning the site.

Following the collapse of the Khmer Empire in the 15th Century, the jungle reclaimed Ta Prohm, concealing its secrets for centuries. It wasn't until 21st-century preservation efforts began that Western researchers rediscovered the site's intricate bas-relief carvings. Preservationists opted to maintain the temple's picturesque state, interwoven with the surrounding jungle.

The enigmatic carving in question, located east of the main sanctuary, depicts an animal bearing a striking resemblance to a stegosaurus. This seemingly inexplicable image fuels theories of human and non-avian dinosaur coexistence, although mainstream science dismisses such claims as pseudoscientific.

More plausible explanations suggest the carving's 'plates' represent lotus leaves or other foliage, a common motif found throughout the temple. The animal could be a rhinoceros, chameleon, boar, or mythological creature, as seen in other reliefs at Ta Prohm.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the carving's true nature, some young earth creationists have seized upon it as evidence to bolster their theories. Another alternative hypothesis posits that the carving is indeed a stegosaurus but was etched as a hoax by modern hands, perhaps those of someone working on one of the many films which have used Ta Prohm as a location - most notably 'Tomb Raider.’

Ta Prohm is now a UNESCO world heritage site, but academics have yet to reach any consensus regarding what the 'dinosaur of Ta Prohm' is supposed to represent...

Praveen Mohan has pointed out many other dinosaur depictions at Angkor and Indian temples. My suggestion in a comment to him was, that much like skilled astronomers, the ancients MUST have been very, very skilled archaologists. All their creations are made of massive quarried stone.

Its amazing how many discoveries get dismissed as frauds so often when they threaten the accuracy of the scientific community.

It's honestly a major failing of humans that as a collective we never just agree that we don't know what we don't know and instead of arguing with each other about it we don't work together to find answers...

Understand that the word "dinosaur" wasn't invented until the 1830's. Before that time all large reptiles were referred to as dragons. So yes humans in the past coexisted with dinosaurs which is why we have so many dragon stories that have survived including historical accounts of humans who saw them (Alexander the Great saw one living in a cave in India, and King Abisarus kept two dragons as pets that were between 120 and 210 feet long for example). There's some evidence that there is a relict population even today deep in the Congo jungle as the primitive (uneducated) tribes of indigenous people who are shown drawings of dinosaurs not only recognize them as animals they have seen, but even have their own names for them.

The problem with "Modern-Day Science" (or "Scientists") is that they totally dismiss anything without fully investigating anything that goes against the "Realm of Mainstream Science." The one thing that they totally dismiss is that there may be the concept of Ancient Advanced Civilizations that may have existed before our own Modern Day Advanced Civilization. That's not "science." that's being a bit overly arrogant without even conducting "the Scientific Method of Investigation."

Why would locals bother faking human footprints amongst hundreds of dinosaur footprints? It’s absurd!

As a kid, I found similar prints in the Texas Hill Country outside of San Antonio.

So, this one dude etched 50, 000 to 100, 000 Ica stones? Impressive.

Are we just going to ignore what looks very much like another type of dinosaur, which three fourths of is visible for a few seconds, directly above the carved "stegosaurus" looking creature ?!? I would like to also see a closeup ot that carving. What was partly visible for just a couple of seconds, is shaped like a dinosaur that walked or stood mostly on it's back legs.

why is it so unbelievable that ancient people would find dino bones and assume what the animal would look like would be similar to what we thought early on?

The Ica stones are the most intriguing and plausible to me. It would take an entire lifetime of a fairly skilled artist to make that many stones. If it was a hoax, why go to that high of effort? They even went so far as to do it on the same type of stone. They were obviously special, not just hastily made fakes, at least in my opinion. Sure they can never be proven in terms of age since you can't age stones, but they can also never be disproven.

These thought-provoking mysteries of the coexistence of humans and dinosaurs, as well as advanced ancient cultures, the authenticity of artifacts, fascinate us to no end. Mainstream science might scoff at some of the proposed theories, but that doesn't halt our fascination. These archaeological mysteries remind us that there is a huge scope to human history and yet many unanswered questions below the surface awaiting exploration. Everybody should be encouraged to explore with curiosity and expand their understandings about the bygone days.

I love the mysteries here .. and that the author calls out suspected hoaxes.

There are petroglyphs of supposed dinosaurs in Canada; in Lake Superior and further north to Peterborough in Ontario.

Don't forget the classic counterargument of "ok, wtf is it than? If not that, what? And why?" This is how science is actually done. As far as anyone knows it was an animal the carver had seen in a dream.

I can't help but question modern science. Especially theories such as carbon dating. Seriously, how do we really know that it is accurate when no one has been able to test it? We'd have to wait thousands, millions, billions of years to prove it.
