The Iron Age, widely known for revolutionizing human civilization, has yielded countless discoveries of tools and weapons made from its namesake ore. Archeologists have also found iron tools predating this era, and their discovery has left experts in the field mystified for decades - until now.

Pre-Iron Age societies lacked the technology required to smelt iron into practical tools. Yet, some of these ancient cultures had access to this metal, which would go on to shape human history in profound ways. Among the early civilizations that had access to advanced materials beyond their time were the Ancient Egyptians, who demonstrated a significant mastery of ironworking over 5,000 years ago, well before the Iron Age.

Another example is the Neolithic settlement of Alaca Höyük in central Turkey, where archaeologists discovered an iron dagger believed to be around 4,500 years old. The site contains multiple large, decorative royal tombs watched over by stone sphinxes and is famous for its many gold and bronze artifacts. However, it was the iron dagger that captured the imagination of historians and archaeologists.

The Alaca Höyük dagger's blade, made jagged by time, is relatively long and attached to an intricate golden hilt. Using modern geochemical identification processes, scientists have determined that this dagger and most Egyptian and pre-Iron Age iron tools are made from "meteoric iron." This unique type of iron, enriched with a higher concentration of nickel, is believed to have come from outer space and is distinct from the iron found on Earth.

Meteoric iron is formed within the molten cores of celestial bodies, and its extraterrestrial origins have long fascinated early civilizations. Ancient records indicate that these societies understood the nature of this metal as Egyptian hieroglyphs allude to iron being "from the sky." Later records from across the world similarly refer to this metal using terms that translate approximately to "sky iron."

These discoveries have opened up new avenues of research for archaeologists, hinting at the technological capabilities of early civilizations and their connection to the cosmos...

There's a video of a blacksmith who made a dagger out of meteorite iron. I recall he had a hard time because it contained so many impurities that made it more brittle than usual.

About 5 years ago, I was sat down outside having a smoke whilst chatting on the phone. It was about midnight. Behind my place was just acres of farms and fields, normal in England. All of a sudden I saw a big blue streak in front of me, came down really quick, flashing blue and white, broke into two main pieces and then the light died out over the fields. Was cool to see, wish I could've got some

I happen to be in possession of a naturally sword shaped meteorite the size of a long sword (±1m) and weighs in at an astonishing 15kgs (33lbs) - meteorites are so dense. It just needs a handle and a bit of sharpening up to make it into something you could call "The Sword of the Gods". It's predominantly yellow with dark patches and features the classic meteorite "thumbprints".
It's an incredible piece, found in the Sahara desert.

The Inuit made tools from the Innaanganeq Meteorite - which is pretty cool as they had limited resources for forging.

Not ancient but I thought it'll be nice to mention that Sir Terry Pratchett's sword is made of a meteor that he smelted and forged himself for when he got knighted. That man is my hero. Not just because he wrote my favourate series of books.

An arrow? Impossible… that’s just bizzare.

Between the meteoric iron working and the Saqqara Bird, it really isn’t a question of if ancient Egyptians were more advanced than most of us think today… more of a question of just how much more advanced some of them were than we imagined

Fun fact: In ancient times, people who studied these meteors to understand their makeup and trajectories were colloquially known as “Starcallers”. While even stranger, some that had been exposed to these ancient metals began to lose pigmentation in their skin leaving them a ghostly pale white along with the skin developing an odd, stone-like texture. Due to their nigh imperviousness granted by the meteorites they were dubbed “Alabaster Lords” and were mysteriously adept in wielding these weapons forged of sky iron.

This reminds of that Conan the Barbarian cartoon. The characters take meteorites, and make them into Magical weapons(Swords, Spears, Knifes, etc...). They called it "SKY METEL".

Yes. Someone else mentioned King Tuts one of two daggers. Also Jim Bowies Bowie knife. It's said the kraftsman that forged it, discovered this meteorite ore some years before.
Apparently Asian culture has some legend regarding bronze swords.

The Sword of God or Sword of Mars that was once carried by Attila the Hun was also thought to be mad from meteorite ore.
