Once everything is officially drift free: That's when it truly deserves the Seal of Quality.

Who would win?
A multi-billion dollar company with millions worth of R&D
or
One speck of cardboard

This hack is an absolute lifesaver. Did not expect it would come from just placing a piece of paper in between it

Just a heads up to anyone attempting this fix! I used the same soft material that spawnwave used and it only worked for about 10 days before the material eventually flattened and was no longer providing pressure. Using a harder material should allow it to be a more permanent fix.

Remember when Nintendo was renowned for their durable, quality hardware? I miss that Nintendo.

Dude you are such a troll lol. I almost thought you were going to sabotage those Syward Sword Joycons lol.

The problem seems to be the metal backplate going slightly out of spec from the constant downward pressure from the joystick being used, reducing the pressure on the potentiometer pads. The pressure being applied by the spacer presses the metal backplate back into place and restoring sufficient force on the potentiometers.

Just did that with 2 of my joycons, fixed it. Damn just a cardboard was the difference between me enjoying Darks Souls and a cliff

I tried this on a 3DS circle pad, it surprisingly worked perfectly.

I think it’s always good to have cheap, inexpensive fix options. Definitely helps give more options to all kinds of people. Plus getting even a little more mileage out of older parts probably helps a little bit in creating less ewaste.

The replacements drift as well. I’ve had to replace sticks about 3 times. So if there is a permanent solution, that will be much better.

There's two kinds of Joy-Con drift. There's the stick drift due to mechanical wear which you're describing in this video, and there's the radio drift, where the whole Joy-Con loses connection with the console for a second or so. My original Joy-Cons eventually developed stick drift, so I sent them in to Nintendo for replacements. The new ones immediately have the radio drift issue, on the right Joy-Cons only. :(
