A woman claimed to have found the young pup, a 75-pound terrier mix that has since been named Cornell, badly injured as he bled on a street in Freeport, according to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. The woman took the pooch to a dog rescue operation and then to the Hempstead animal shelter, where he received the necessary medical attention to help save his life.

NBC New York's Greg Cergol reports.

Oh my, poor baby, OMG. A helpless, innocent, defenseless fur baby. OMG. Dogs are from the angelic realms, theyre fur children, literally. I hope he will be in a happy forever home for baby Cornell. The Most High sits HIGH and Looks low. The culprit is a low down vermin criminal demonic. My prayers are with doggie Cornell ! 💛🙏🕊😇

I honestly can not comprehend how someone can do this to a defenseless animal. Lets "just say" it was self defense...17 times!!! Obviously a case of animal cruelty. Glad he's ok and has found a good family. People need to get their shhh together.

sounds like someone defended themselves from a pit bull attack - thats not a terrier mix.

The person could very well have been defending themselves.

A major red flag here. If they are trying to adopt this 'traumatized' puppy, there's a high chance that it will attack or at worst kill someone. They reasoned that's the case, but they're going against their own logic?
