Advanced tips for drawing in perspective you rarely find on youtube

There are hundres of videos out there which cover some basics, but If you' re really interested in more advanced tips and methods, I 'd suggest you to check this out. I' m aware that many designers already know these principles, I'm not PRO at this, definitely not... this is just a little demonstration that goes beyond the basics.

It's so frustrating when you're a beginner and you need to rotate a box for the first time but every single video you click on just explains one, two, and three point perspective in basic terms and ends it there as if to imply that there would never be any reason to define a new set of vanishing points in the same scene. They just don't tell you, and although I realize that many of these videos are made for beginners and are trying to minimize needless confusion by leaving out complexities, it actually just led me to way more confusion down the line! I spent a year or so struggling with perspective until i finally figured out that you can use both one and two point perspective in the same scene or that there can be infinite sets of two point perspective vanishing points in the same scene along the same horizon line used to rotate a box to any angle. And that's not even to mention the way that beginner perspective videos approach the horizon line, which I only somewhat recently came to understand refers to eye-level (or the level of the "camera" in the scene), and will not always align with the horizon in every drawing!

I really appreciate videos like this one that highlight the nuances of perspective rather than trying to give beginners the simplest tools possible to technically get the job done. I want to understand perspective fully so i can utilize it to its fullest potential, but when you type "perspective tutorial" into youtube, all of the top videos explain nothing more than the bare basics and I was almost convinced that I just needed to learn to freehand a box if its rotation didn't align with my two point perspective scene. I think a lot of this is a result of the fact that videos purported to help "beginners" will always do the best on youtube. Anybody who wants to learn how to draw will need to watch a basic perspective tutorial, but most people will quit art before they get to the point of needing an intermediate tutorial, and as a result every art channel posts a beginner's tutorial but very few artists follow it up with an intermediate or advanced tutorial. And all of this kind of makes it really hard to find intermediate perspective tutorials for anyone who does end up wanting to dive deeper.

All this to say that I'm very glad there are videos like this one out there for people who need a bit more info on the specifics. Thank you!

Yep, this video really adresses things that most videos on perspective on you tube don't. Thank you.

Great video. The key is to know which vanishing point to move in order to rotate objects in desired way.

I typed in "intermediate prospective drawing tip" and you your video first. This is the higher level stuff I needed!!! I'm gonna save this video and keep referring to it so I can also do what you've done. Thank you!

I've joined a beginners art class (I'm 53) and we learned this last week and I can remember learning this at school and I've fallen back in love with it. Not fully confident yet, but I'm eager...x

I've been looking for tips like that, that focus on object positions not conformed with the horizon and VPs where everything else converges.. like tilted roofs, or a human figure with one hand for example is raised god knows where..etc. i subscribed, i hope you keep clarifying more of those interesting points.. thank you

I just faced this Great Unknown in an animation I’m still working on: a crate hurtling through the air, obviouly turning as it does so.

Wow. I was stumped. My brain couldn’t process it - I thought it was because it was 2:00 in the morning and I was overtired.

Thank you. I’m going to have to watch this several times…

Glad i found this!
Despite being already pretty experienced in art, rotations and inclines all make my brain go *poof*, so thanks for making it easier to understand!
