Officer Arrested While On Duty!! Uniform Cut off him!!

According to the criminal complaint, Wharton beat his girlfriend so badly, she had several gashes on her head and face. Police say her injuries were so severe, she had to be taken to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a brain bleed. Some of the domestic incident was captured on the couples "RING" doorbell system.

When Officer Wharton arrived for his shift at an area substation Rio Rancho Police officers were waiting for him armed with a felony warrant. At one point you'll see they removed his duty belt and searched him. After the search they are seen on lapel video cutting off his fully marked uniform shirt. Wharton was lead out of the substation to a waiting cruiser.

He was booked into the Sandoval County Detention Center on charges of Kidnapping (First Degree) (NO Intent to Commit Sex Offense), Aggravated Battery (great bodily harm) (household member), Aggravated Battery Against a Household Member (Strangulation or Suffocation), Aggravated Battery (great bodily harm) (household member), Tampering with Evidence (Highest Crime a Capital, First or Second Degree and Negligent Use of a Deadly Weapon (Unsafe Handling).

Wharton resigned from APD shortly after this arrest. APD says Wharton had been with the department since November 2010. He was a senior officer with the department. His trial is pending.

I think the sickest part is that he beat his girlfriend senseless and then shows up to work the next day as if nothing would happen.

At first I couldn't figure out why they didn't have him take off his shirt instead of cutting it off of him, and then I read why he was arrested. They did a great job and made an example out of him as well to other officers! I think the dept intentionally had the female officers handling this to send a message to him as well. Because any man that does that to a woman has no respect for them. And it would be all the more humiliating.

The little song the officer whistles then sings " nice to know you, ". Handled well . Not many words spoken, but the air was thick with disgust. Well done . Zero tolerance for domestic violence.

I get the sense that the other officers already hate this dude, and this is a relief to get him out.

It galls me that the police officers had to protect him while he was in custody. He spent about 6 months in jail and when sentenced, he only got three years of probation. The intensity of the beating that woman received from him could have killed her. It surely left life-long scars. Three years of some desk-jockey waggling a cautionary finger at you, It is not enough. If he beat her that severely, I promise you the next woman won't see it coming and she might not survive him. This never goes away on it's own and will get worse.
