Thanks for bringing this up. I had not thought about my adult 'kids' educational benefits now that I am 60%. Big thanks for your help, CC!

Thank you Craig. Excellent information. My 17 year old is headed off to college this fall. I've put in my claim for TDIU. I am currently at 90% combined rated.

I used to work at Austin Community College as a VA representative to help Veterans and their dependent sign up for Chapter 31, 33, and 35. Their classes must match the major they're going to enroll in. If they drop or withdraw a class the VA will ask for that money back! It's better to pass or fail a class than to drop or withdraw! My children now have Chapter 35.

Some states will pay the tuition of your dependent to a state college if you are 100% P and T. Just got to do some research in your state.

Where can I find the information that supports that the tuition is paid by CH 35 and the $1400 is for addition expenses ? My daughter has the understanding that Ch 35 only covers the $1400 monthly and now I'm worried 😢😢

I was confused with the verification process because on the VA website it says you do NOT have to verify enrollment if your dependent child is enrolled in a college degree program. You DO have to verify enrollment if you are getting DEA benefits AND you are NOT enrolled in a college degree program.

I also completed the Chapter 35 form online through the VA website. That being said, this is the first time filling this out and I have no idea if I will need to go back and do anything else for my daughter. I know that she will need to fill out the paperwork (do it online) academic year but that should be it.

California Vet fee waiver was a little more work. My daughter and I turned in all the verification paperwork to the VA county office and they said they would certify it within two weeks. We heard back from them after a week that they had updated the paperwork and we needed to resend with the new form, but it has been about 2 weeks since then so waiting to see how that goes, then I believe she will just upload the certification into the Cal State portal and hopefully that is it.

I don't mean to be greedy but I was hoping we would be able to get the DEA Chapter 35 and the Dependent over 18 college student at the same time but it is one or the other. Then I thought, "well if she is not getting Chap 35 in the summer then she would switch back to that for a couple of months and then cut that when she is back on chapter 35 in Aug. Apparently once they go onto chapter 35 that is it, no more dependent over 18 college support.

To be fair, I started the process to hopefully get my daughter support for college so anything that the VA can do is great.

So it is 1400 something paid to the dependent then, and no dependent related payment for that dependent to the veteran anymore? As in, the $320 something to the veteran for that dependent stops?

Need help. I am 100%. I transferred my post 9/11 GI Bill to my wife and she used it all for her RN and BSN. There is 3 months left that she will use towards her MSN now along with chapter 35. I was given Voc Rehab when I was medically retired in 2015 but have never used it. I was a military policeman when I was in. I now work remotely for the VA as a Program Support Assistant. I am wanting to go back to school to get my degree in hospital administration but don’t know if there is anything that will cover school for free or help pay for it. Within the VA as a Veteran or even as an employee. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im confused does this mean that they only get paid monthly and with that they pay tuition? Or they get both paid?
Thanks!

What if you have multipe children college age at the same time? The local VA rep told me only ONE CHILD AT A TIME can receive the stipend. Is that true?
