My auto GR86 will be here by end of September. I currently own a 2002 Celica GT-S 6 speed manual. My dilemma was I needed a new car before this winter and wanted a 2nd gen 86, because Toyota doesnt plan on releasing a new Celica gen soon so this was the next best purist sports car for me.

I havent driven auto for 4 years but what im looking forward to is trying paddle shifting. I know I will receive a lot of hate from manual elitists but end of the day it's what I want out of the car that matters.

Awesome video btw, you can hear the Auto shifting slower than the Manual because of the taller gears 😁

easy mod for the automatic is swap differential to 4.66 final drive ratio or even 4.88. it will be faster than manual with 4.66 or higher and still get good mpg. stock auto fd 3.9/manual stock fd is 4.1.

My auto. 86 is an absolute dream! No trac control makes it a better one :D

Conclusion the goons in the auto didn’t enable sport mode

Manual is hard for me to drive a new gr86. But I need to get automatic because I l’m a new driver after passing driving exam in summer

I'm honestly pretty okay with two types of transmissions, I'm probably more of an automatic guy because I like paddle shifting, but I'll take a MT anytime too.

I'm disabled so while I can still drive stick, it's very uncomfortable for me now. Looking forward to my 2023 Neptune Blue AT.

I have a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon with the 6 speed manual. I have always been a huge standard gearbox fan and will always buy a stick but I will always defend automatic owners because at the end of the day, it is that person’s money and they can, will, and should buy what they want and what makes them happy. In the end, we love our vehicles. I’ll even be the first one to tell you that the 8 speed automatic in the Wranglers and Gladiators is superior mechanically in every single way to us 6 speed stick owners.

I’m getting a 2023 Supra but the big debate is Manuel or auto and honestly the interaction of shifting and knowing I won the race beats knowing that the car didn’t win the for you. Needed this clip👍🏽

I prefer manual in most cases. There are some cars that are just better with certain transmissions. A mustang for example needs the manual even though the 20 speed is faster. A gti or golf R need the auto because it is 1000x better. A BRZ\86 absolutely must be had in a manual. IMO the whole essence of the car is lost without it.

I don't know how to drive, yet, but I'll take a driving lesson soon. The problem is they don't teach driving manuals anymore. Maybe I should get an automatic GR86 for now.

i beaten manuals tbh, it’s the driver who drives the car but buy what YOU WANT!!

If u cant drive a clutch and u like the car so much that u end up with the auto thats fine. But we all know what this car was truly intended to be.

Can I get the auto remapped to have shorter ranges?

Not surprised. GR86 is more of a manual focused based vehicle. Other cars like the Nissan Z, BMW’s M cars, and Toyota Supra automatic is much faster than the manual. Overall, automatic is faster than manual.

As an Auto Driver. The driver of the automatic might not be properly shifting at the correct intervals to account for power. When driving these in automatic (in manual mode) you really have to throw it on track mode and manually calculate the inputs for shifts.

I’ve placed better lap times than 911’s that weren’t able to properly maximize their power and were shifting a bit too early on the straights.

I expected the manual to be much faster vs auto. Car & driver mag says only 2 second difference 0-100 mph. For that minimal difference, I'll take the auto & use the paddles like a formula 1 car!

So stock for stock yes manual is lighter but when u start talking big power gains to fast cars than a auto should always be quicker but not always the case just bc u can shift quick doesn't mean your car fast

I would still pick the auto ...
#1 i am lazy and auto is EASY ...
#2 better in traffic
#3 better gas mileage
#4 quicker shifts than a manual, even faster than you super fast shifting manual fan boys
#5 auto has paddle shift so i can simulate a manual and shift when i want.
#6 i dont need to have control over each gear 24/7 when driving
#7 i already have a manual 240sx with 600 crank hp ... So when i need to feel the manual, i jump in that one and have fun.
#8 dont forget # 1
#9 auto or manual .... its na and its only 220 hp = slow

Nice shifts, the people who are saying they would have the auto are the people who can’t shift like you.
