The description from Samsung says: the rubber padding has a thermal guard that controls heat. Reading comments about being worried about it fair.

I bought T7 (not Shield) just because I didn't want the rubber to stop the heat. I often use lengthy data transfers on my other external SSDs and they really heat up after couple of minutes. the rubberized casing is great if you are planning to go hiking with it. I prefer the bare metal casing not to overheat the circuits.

I got the t7 shield over the regular t7 solely because I cannot stand the sound of the regular T7 rubbing against my Macbook Pro. I know its a dumb reason but its the typa sound that I hate. Like how some people can’t stand chalk grinding on chalkboard

Apple Mac question — If buying newest Mac mini (m2 or m2 pro chip) with 16GB memory, . As far app use, is there any advantage to built-in ssd over external? Will programs work better with built-in ssd. I understand advantage of more memory but concern is does larger ssd internal also help app performance.

Seems they stopped making the Samsung X5 which was twice as fast and around for several years now. Is there anything faster then the T7?

My computer wont recognize my samsung t7 shield drive. Honestly pretty pissed, i cant find any thing online that has my exact issue and tech support just straight up didnt know how to help and told me to try it on another computer and ended the chat.

My issue is my computer makes the dinging noise like a drive is plugged in but doesnt show up in the drive section, and the only place i can find the drive is in the devices and printers section in the control panel and the device manager but no where i can actually open the drive to get the footage off. Anyone know how to access it or at least any ideas? 🙏

NVME in a USB 3.2 gen 2 interface is hard to make sense of in 2022; the whole point of an NVME drive (over SATA) is that it can do much, much better speeds than this, and USB 4 has been out for like... more than a year at this point.

also, i'd really like to see a thermal reading on a rubberized and weather-sealed NVME drive after some amount of sustained use. i don't even need a stress test, but if i'm working with video files or something and reading off that drive, what are the temps after 10 or 15 minutes? i would be extra cautious handling that drive to pack it away after a long working session.

i understand if this is meant for a lower budget target or something, but... if you're on the fence about this, consider saving yourself a fortune by getting a weather-sealed 2.5" SATA drive.

My question may not be specific to this product but hopefully someone can help me. As I transfer files from my laptop to my external, everything that I drag over to my external also gets saved to google drive, which I don't want to do. Any ideas?

Rubber is also an isolater. Too much of it might not be as ideal. That depending on temperatures of course.

For me personally, I don't mind so me petina on an aluminium body. Rubber on the corners only would be enough for me, especially that this design adds thickens.
