Things I like to point out here:
- Windows 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 actually don’t have startup and shutdown sounds. That’s because .WAV files did not exist at the time until Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions was released. The fake 1.0-3.0 startup and shutdown sounds are actually a portion of the Windows 95 startup sound pitched down two or three octaves. The Windows 3.1 startup and shutdown sounds were also used as 1.0-3.0’s respective startup and shutdown sounds, but as I’ve mentioned before, Windows 1.0-3.0 never had startup sounds until Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions was released.
- Neptune was actually a real project that was supposed to succeed Windows 2000, but in January or February 2000, the Neptune and Odyssey projects were cancelled and were eventually merged into Whistler, which later became Windows XP.
- If you ever download a .ISO file of all Windows Whistler builds, you won’t hear the fake startup and shutdown sounds. You’ll actually hear the startup and shutdown sounds of Windows 2000 and Windows ME.
- If you ever download a .ISO file of all Longhorn builds, you’ll actually hear Windows XP’s startup and shutdown sounds (until build 5536). The fake sounds come from many different themes (example: the Deep Fantasy sound scheme from NEOSounds)

I like how the startup for Windows 3.1 sounds like some old victory noise, and Windows 95 uses the same sound for its shutdown. It's like 3.1 is really happy to just turn on, while 95 is happy to turn off.

Corrections:
- Windows 1.0/2.0/3.0 didn't have Startup Sound.
- Windows Whistler only uses Windows 2000/Me Startup and Shutdown Sound on earlier builds and uses Windows XP Startup and Shutdown Sound on later builds.
- Windows Longhorn uses Windows XP Startup and Shutdown Sounds on earliest builds and reset builds, Windows XP Startup and Vista Logoff on last phase of Beta and reach the RTM, Vista Startup and Shutdown on later builds.
- Windows 8 and 8.1 doesn't use Logon as a Startup Sound, the OS uses Windows Vista/7 Startup Sound which is disabled by default. Windows 8 and 8.1 doesn't have Shutdown Sounds
- Windows 10 also uses Windows Vista/7 Startup Sounds. Same as Windows 8 and 8.1 is disabled by default and doesn't have shutdown sound.

Note:
Correct me if I wrong, if you guys think my corrections are false and prove that the sounds are real on VM. Because I have tried them and no builds of Windows OS uses the false sounds in my corrections. Some beta testers also prove, Windows Whistler, Server 2003 UK and Longhorn sounds are fake. They used their respective or predecessors OS sounds.
