It devides the inside of the ship into smaller parts, so if the ship were to collide, only a part of the hull would fill with water. Australian here. Clive Palmer's super yacht recently had major issues and almost smashed into a rock this year. Its currently "resting" in the local Marina on the Gold Coast, and my dog takes his morning dump right in front of it most mornings. But Titanic 2 should be right no drama
