A common questions I hear from English learners is, "How do I stop translating in my head?" It's a great question. I understand the frustration. You're doing all this hard work to learn English and your brain still wants to translate everything you hear, or translate before you speak. It would be so nice if you could just think in English and not be slowed down by translating in your mind all the time.

I think these tips will help a lot. In this English lesson I'll go over 7 techniques that you can use to help avoid translating in your head, and to train your brain to stop doing it. You'll learn how to adjust some of your current learning strategies so that you reduce the amount of time you spend translating and spend more time communicating efficiently!

In this English lesson you'll learn about Overloading, Oversaturating, Forced Description, Shadowing, Visualization, Using An English Only Dictionary, and Repetition.

I hope you enjoyed this English lesson about how to stop translating in you mind and I hope it will help you a lot on your English learning journey! I hope it will also help you to start to think in English!

Have a great day!

⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

I have been trying to continue studying English since the last 3 years and still do. And one of the things I really recommend to everyone is to listen to Bob's Short English Lessons channel videos over and over again. In fact, I run the playlist over and over again while doing whatever, while running, while working out, when driving to work, when I have some free time at work, etc. I've listened to the entire playlist over five times and my goal is to listen to it at least sixteen times. A patient of mine who was an English teacher a few years ago told me that our brains need to be exposed to a new word at least sixteen times before we can remember and use it. So I said to myself, let me listen to Bob's short English lessons as long as I can and I'm on it.

I've been working as a translator for many years and just moved to Canada. I can traslate fast and smoothly but it is so weiiirdo that I still struggle to talk fluently and confidently in everyday life in this English-speaking country. My translator mind is definetely a huge barrier.. This video is really helpful! Thank you Bob.

I really did almost all of these without me realizing that I was doing so, and that helped me to speak English fast in an Arabic country where no body speaks it and in less than two years.
Thanks so much..

For less than one month I watched your videos and now slowly but surely I can understand the sentence without translating them into my language. I always read the subtitle while listening to you speaking in the videos. It’s very helpful. Thank you my best teacher Bob. 🙏☺️
