How to Motivate and Reward Children with Magic Marbles

This great little magic marbles trick has worked wonders to motivate and reward my children!

A quick, non candy reward is the perfect way to get your kids to do homework, chores or a nice special treat when they behave!

I just simply do a chart and draw a star for my 5 year-old everytime he does something good, like cleaning his toys or acting nice to his little sister to keep him motivated .It's very simple and for him it really works! He gets so proud of his stars that once a chart is complete he likes to display it in his room. :)

Cool idea! My son would've loved that when he was younger ... he's 17 now. He loved finding/collecting little things like marbles, buttons, shiny rocks, etc. Ride the little white lie wave while it lasts ... it's not hurting anyone.

My 3 year olds just watched this over my shoulder and kept asking "do we have marbles?" lol!

Great idea ... you can even add the marbles to a clear container and when they fill it to the goal line they get a reward like a new DVD and movie night with popcorn!!!! Or when someone compliments your child for good behavior they can earn a marble for that too!

I enjoyed this video, it meshed with my experience of what motivates junior children. I've used glass gems in the classroom and found it a fantastic motivator - also linked to a place value system where they exchange ten small gems for a larger one. This year I'm trying something a little different where they will reward themselves for their effort during the day with up to 5 beads at a time. A discussion on what effort looks like and feels like will need to take place first.

When my kids were small I used to buy the plastic poker chips and write "MM" on them for "Mommy Money"  Then I made up a chart for things they could turn their Mommy Money in for like, Mom reads you a story, Dad takes you out for an ice cream cone, a trip to the dollar store for one item  etc.  So they could save them and turn them I for their "prize"  It worked really well!

Love this! Might tweak it for us and get her to fill something to a point with marbles and then get something she wants. She's into marbles at the minute with my lazy susan making!
