Skype, supported by the world's largest software company, is losing popularity, especially during the pandemic. People are now turning to other alternatives, such as Zoom and Meta's WhatsApp, for personal and professional communication. Several options are now available to quickly connect with friends and colleagues using smartphones.

Skype has been a game-changer in the communication industry by changing how we communicate personally and professionally. Its features, including conference calls and screen sharing, have become essential tools for people worldwide, making business communication more accessible. The platform's user-friendly interface and affordable international calling plans have cemented its position as a reliable communication tool.

However, several factors contributed to Skype's decline, including its lack of innovation and failure to keep up with the competition, security, and privacy concerns, and its acquisition by eBay and later Microsoft led to a change in focus and management.

it was bought out by microsoft and then killed and rolled into ms team, 101 monopoloy playbook ...i know this because at the time I was interviewing there for the "new" team. so glad i didn't get the role, the ms campus life look super depressing...like a ghetto of small (over priced) housing for ms employees in redmond.
