Replacing a failed boot USB in my Proxmox server

I killed a usb boot drive after 1.25 years and about 10TB of writes. Now the drive went read only and needed replacement, but I wanted to make it harder for myself by doing it hot.

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one going way off-book with my setup. Great video!

Thanks! Have you thought about doing a Proxmox video on setting up email notification for backup/snapshot/SMART/Drive Failures?

1:26 I've had so many Sandisk failures, those drives specifically, I still have an aversion to Sandisk, and by extension any WD SSD drives as those are Sandisk.

Hello,
Thanks for the video and the great job!

I have a PVE server installed on RAID0 with 2 1TB disk accedently I forget to make it mirror, now I want to make it mirror.

I was able remove a disk from the "rpool" --> with zpool remove rpool /dev/sdb
Then tired to attaceh the disk again to the same pool as mirror but it does not works -- > zpool attach -f rpool /dev/sda3 /dev/sdb3

but it does not work, could you please advise me on that or have you done that before?

Can you tell what settings should be done to extend the life of the usb flash drive/microsd? I have a HP elitedesk 800 which only has two disk slots and I would like to install proxmox on Kingston industrial grade microSD 16gb. I guess it has to reduce the writings by disabling swap or something similar..Not sure.

Do you have a link for that Proxmox guide? I'm struggling to find it.

Hey, I'm a new comer to proxmox, could you give some guidance on how I should set up drives on my proxmox.
I currently have it set up with just a 1TB SSD.
l recently bought a 1TB m.2 ssd.
I was wondering which drive would be best suited to be used as a boot drive?

Instead of using USB flash drives you can buy a M.2 to USB adapter to plug into the USB port. I've done that option to run it internally in a Thin Client computer. I'm running a server with slots for drives and the two slots closest to the USB ports have external SATA USB enclosures slid into the slots and plugged into the USB ports.

Many people do not know that USB 3.0 default is storage driver.
EFI system partition must be FAT FS and writable

I purchased a Samsung Portable SSD USB drive to use a shared storage for both PBS or PVE and have allot of trouble. One even though I eliminated the USB drive as bootable in bios it still starts at boot process and hangs (initramfs) on command line and still remains even after I removed the USB drive and rebooted. Any link to vid or guide would be most appreciated and returned.

Is it impossible to do this way:

1. Add new temp usb drive to existing mirror,
2. Rebuild it
3. Remove both old drives
4 Find the working one
5. Plug back old working
6. Rebuild
7. Add another new one
8. Rebuild
9. Exclude temp usb drive from mirror
10. Unplug temp drive
