On July 4, 2015, my 17-year-old son, Michael complained of coldness and pain in his left arm. Blood clots were discovered without a known cause. A hematologist referred us to Dr. Lum, who diagnosed him with TOS - blood vessels were being compressed between the collar bone and first rib. Dr. Lum performed the surgery by removing a section of the first rib in November 2015 to expand the space for the blood vessels and nerves... and all went well. Dr. Lum even sterilized the rib section that was removed and gave it to my son. Today, six years later, he lifts weights and stays fit...he graduated from Virginia Tech with a Mechanical Engineering this spring...not sure what would have happened without Dr. Lum's surgery. Thank you isn't enough Dr. Lum but THANK YOU!

For anyone who watches this video who believes that they have TOS and they feel like other specialists haven't helped you figure out this complex condition, please make an appointment with one of the top docs for TOS:

The top TOS surgeons I can think of off the top of my head are:

Dr. Donahue, Mass General, Boston, MA
Dr. Pearl, Baylor, Dallas, TX
Dr. Thompson, Barnes-Jewish, St. Louis, MI
Dr. Humphries, UC Davis, Davis, CA
Dr. Gelabert, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA
Dr. Lum, Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, MD

One of these doctors will hopefully change your life.

After 2 years of pain, I was recently diagnosed. Went to a chiropractor to help with the pain. This year, I i did 8 weeks of physical therapy before knowing what was actually wrong. NOw that I've been diagnosed I was referred to physical therapy again. The pain is absolutely unbearable. Arm, hand, fingers are so weak, sometimes I can't even hold a tube of toothpaste. I hope physical therapy helps. I need to know how to manage this in my older years.

I have pretty severe TOS bilateral that is reducing blood flow to my right arm especially. I was a hairstylist for 13 years and after I had my daughter it for much much worse. Carrying around a baby and doing housework I assume. I have been unable to work and disabled from it for four years now. I just relocated from Seattle to Houston and am looking at Baylor university for surgery options. I would love to speak to Dr. Lum if possible even just to get a consult on my case here in Houston. My husband said if we can’t find the best surgeon in Houston than we can travel but as many know it is very hard to travel for a surgery of this type. I really enjoy all the videos and awareness Dr. Lum is putting out on the internet.

Controversial diagnosis and treatment is another way of saying that your doctor will think you're crazy. I wish it was easier to get treatment in the US. It's both cost prohibitive and likely requires travel, on top of extremely long waiting periods.

I swear I have this and no doctor will listen to me. If you have any recommendations for doctors in NYC, please let me know!
