I was diagnosed with this and it’s mostly solved now. It sucks. Let me save you 5 years: Diligently go to physical therapy. I go twice a week. Laser, ultrasound, electrostim, and rowing. They also do a chiropractic-style adjustment. Get a massage between the appointments. If you are not feeling better a 1-2 months after starting physical therapy, simply find a new therapist. Continue seeing your doctor every few months (schedule in advance) and discuss any changes you feel. Good luck. 👍🏻

Research, research, research before making a decision on surgery. Very important decision not to be rushed into. Good healthy is precious.

This surgery ruined my life, I was only having arm and shoulder pain before having this procedure. Now I have constant pain in my left chest that mimics a heart atack. I'd caution anyone to think twice before having this surgery., As having chest pain now I still have the same pain in arm and shoulder

Just got diagnosed with TOS 2 days ago, luckily no nerve damage but arterial function diminishes in certain positions so they want to do surgery on it. Ontop of that, during their testing to diagnose and rule out other problems, they found i have mild carpal tunnel in both wrists 😐, so after two hip surgeries (osteocondroma at 20, labrum repair at 28 on the same hip), a hip replacement due in about 10 years (for the same hip as before), the surgery for TOS and future surgery for the carpal tunnel issues got me feeling like I should be in a retirement home at 29... not how I wanted life to go but hey at least getting through it will be a good lesson for my son, that if dad can make it through all this crap that he can make it too and to motivate him to go for his dreams.

I was diagnosed with TOS back in January and it sucks, when I see my classmates raise their right arm without any potential problems. And I have to get my first rib completely removed after I graduate from high school.

“2023” My surgery is on March 20th I’m scared but I’m also so ready to try anything. That’s how bad this pain is. Did physical therapy and it made it wayyy worse. Wish I didn’t even go to physical therapy because it wasn’t as bad as it is now. 🙏🏼🤞🏼🙌🏼

Saved my life as well. Day 3 to 4 is the most painful after the surgery. Feels like a neck surgery and now i see why. Had both top ribs removed cause venous tos. The first outbreak nearly killed me because i wasnt on eliquis yet

I was recently diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome and at the moment I'm in physical therapy for it. I am at a very high risk of getting this surgery. I'm a bit worried because it would be my first surgery ever since I'm only a teen.
Edit: I'm scheduled for surgery. Physical therapy just made it worse so I will have this surgery done on June 23rd.

There are exercises that can be done to help this along with Chiropractic, laser and percussion therapy. In the long run you are better off trying these treatments and therapies rather than surgery.

What happens to the muscles attached to rib 1 when its removed?

Before going to surgery try physical therapy, but run away from "doctors" who propose stretching or massages (it's a good indicator to see the level of competence/education). What you need to release the tension is the strengthen the specific muscles, eg. both scallenes (it's often a large combinaison, target all miucles of the torso and neck, it takes a lot of time and effort). Look for msk physio

I am being scheduled for this surgery. I haven’t spoken to my surgeon yet but is this usually done on both sides? Or just the side that the blood clot formed on?

Wow. I have thought about surgery, but this looks crazy intense and near to TOO many essential functions. Like if they fuck up that phrenic nerve, you a goner. Yikes.

I had this surgery at 14 a year ago in St. Louis and it changed my life for the better. The injury progressed through softball, specifically pitching, and became worse over the 4 ½ year course I had it. Now im a sophomore in high school and I've never played better, all because of this surgery.

Any carpenters or tradesmen in this comment section? I’ve been ignoring the symptoms for 2 years but now I’m starting to experience weakness in my grip strength. I’m 42 and the prospects of not being able to able to work with my hands is starting to worry me. Will be seeing a doctor next week for this
