Some people seem confused thinking that I am glamorizing being forced to compete. Quite the opposite, I intented to paint gymnasts getting control over their choice to compete as a positive thing.😅

Bro Simone literally injured her ankle in the 2024 Olympics kept going and still got gold. The time where she dropped out was very responsible. She knew her limits and she knew it would hurt her team to keep competing.

Mental heath might not be seen but it’s there. You can see the hurt ankle but not Simon’s struggle. No athlete should have to compete and keep going if they can’t and if there is a chance they might get hurt them self horribly or even get themselves killed. They are both incredible athletes and amazing people.

I watched Kerri Strug hurt and encouraged by her coaches to go on that day. She nailed it and is, rightfully, hailed as a hero. But at what cost. She was an amazing athlete but she was young and should have been protected. I’m proud of her but I am disappointed in the people who were there to protect and support her.

Yet Simone is the greatest Gymnast of all time. So much for the 'old generation'

That injury in 96 kept her out of competing in the rest of the Olympics. Her coach goaded her into believing she should do it even with an ankle, that I am sure, felt like a numb, swollen brick at the bottom of her leg. She wanted to keep going but it should have been about her safety first. Her coaches and medical staff should have assessed the injury and apprised her of the danger of continuing. From then her choice would have been heroic either way!!!! Simone didn’t quit- she kept herself safe! Kerri didn’t get a choice and paid for

Yes, because let's glamorize suffering instead of having boundaries and knowing when to call it

Dude. That's not healthy? Like I'd rather have a gymnast who is healthy but loses than a gymnast who wins and TEARS THEIR ANKLE

Yo 6.1k? Thanks yall 😘

That’s really hard but Simone dropped out because she was having mental issues and didn’t want to get hurt

It’s different. Kari was injured. Simone had the twisties. Simone could’ve broken her neck because of the twisties. Most people wanted her to drop out to prevent life threatening injuries. Not saying Kari didn’t matter but yk

Can't you appreciate the women athlete without putting the others down?

I love how far we’ve come. From banning the use of stunts known to paralyze and kill, allowing injured gymnasts to withdraw, even often seeing more autonomy in outfit choice, etc. this industry comes from a systemically abusive place and it’s definitely come far in regards to the treatment of athletes. Forcing injured athletes to compete is cruel

If I were her I would have quit, but this strong woman kept going. Great work to her!

That was at the 2020 olympics when Simone Biles had to do two and a half twists but only did one and a half. They call it the 'twisties' . On the documentary 'Simone Biles Rising' she said that the lights in the stadium triggered something in her and she got confused. Simone also said that she was used to gymnastic stadiums being darker. Hope this helps!
