TESTING GOLD JEWELRY AT TRAXNYC #shorts

A classic gold test and acid gold testing kit. I took 2 cubans from my store at 64 West 47th street and a 24k gold coin to show you guys how it works. You take each piece and make a long scratch on the test plate from the gold. Hit those lines with a drop or 2 of each liquid solution (10k,14k, and 18k gold). If the solution dissolves the scratch of gold, then it fails the test. Just one of many ways to make sure you can trust the people you shop with in the diamond district. Dam old school..the last few jewelry stores I have been to use a machine to test it and it tells exactly how gold(what percent/karat) it is.

I know the concentration of the nitric acid is what ultimately tells you what carat gold you are dealing with but how can you be sure it's not just plated?
Honestly, just experience?
