Ummm what kind of doctor is this again? This isn’t a CPR device for drowning. It’s a “Dechoker” for choking.

Very poor interview of the doctor. The main emphasis was around a drowning victim. This device isn't intended for this scenario. You're not going to initiate CPR for an active choking victim.

I'm considering get one of these to have around for my grandchildren and was looking for reviews and saw this video. Why did the doctor bring up drowning? It's supposed to remove a lodged object from the throat, not suction water out of the lungs of a drowning victim. Surely he knows the difference! I'm honestly surprised sometimes how people can be so educated, yet so illogical and lacking in critical thinking. He's conflating two different things.

Those things aren't intended for a drowning victim.

You don’t use CPR on a choking victim. You would use the Heimlich maneuver. You wouldn’t need to do mouth to mouth and now they recommend chest compressions instead. Just saying.

I think she is mistaking CPR for the Heimlich maneuver. Granted you may have to use CPR afterward.

I think most comments are missing the point of the physician's discussion entirely. He's not talking about using it for drowning, he's talking about examples where people may not use it for its intended purpose in hopes that they're helping them. people that are not trained in CPR may not use the product for its intended purpose and think they're helping, but aren't. People do try different things thinking that they're helping but aren't helping the situation. For example, people try doing chest compressions on people having seizures when they have a pulse. If you are not trained, you will try anything to help this person, even if it means using things that aren't for its intended purpose.

This is a horrible report. If you are administering CPR you would not give rescue breaths into someone with a blocked airway. You would have to clear the airway first. Otherwise you risk making the blockage worse by lodging it further down the larynx. This guy is an ER Dr? Wow! that's scary! Remind me to NOT take anyone to the ER where he works!

What med student did you get to do that interview. He’s talking about drowning instead of the correct topic: forreign body in the airway…

The fact that they showed a mom saying it would be nice to use this device instead of other more intimate approaches immediately weirded me out. Why do we have parents and our news sexualizing saving lives in a choking scenario? What a good example we are setting as adults.

Dude... Heimlich manuver involves "mouth to mouth" CPR? Not what the Dechoker is for...
Then the "Dr." advises against it for drowning victims!? Lmfao! Oh yea, I am amazed at this piece.
I just wanted to know if it worked for CHOKING.

Your reporting sucks! The best thing you said was at 5:25, “..you have to make sure it the RIGHT SITUATION…”

Well why would you use that on a drowning victim?

I''ve bought a few of these devices for friends and myself and family - well similar. The Heimlich maneouver is fine if someone is with you but no tif you're on your own. What do you do then?
