As someone who has demonstrated LifeVac hundreds of times, you are not pulling it fast enough and therefore not using it correctly. The faster the pull, the more suction it makes. When used correctly it makes over 300 mmHg.

She didn’t follow the directions on how to properly use either of the devices.

When you attach the mask to the plunger, you’re supposed to twist the mask to lock it in place. This is why the plunger and mask detached during your first attempt.

I tried a lifevac from a demonstrator and was able to get the ball out of the mannequin every try. Blame the user not the tool.

A choking emergency can be tragic or even funny. A friend witnessed a man die in a restaurant having choked on something. I gave a colleague a very hard slap on the back and the piece of food she was choking on shot out and hit the guy sitting opposite, just as she turned around and slapped me in the face, a reflex reaction for which she apologised later. Nobody knew what was happening and thought we had a fight!. The problem is, what if the usual methods fail? I would try anything, even the vacuum cleaner rather than let the victim die before you.

comparing the mechanism to backblows or abdominal thrusts shows that you have no idea what you’re talking about because both of those require there to be air already in the lungs, which may not always be the case.

I just saw a video with two cops saving a little kid choking on candy with lifevac, she obviously doesn't know how to use it.

Well if I had to pick one from the 2 I am going with the lifevac cuz looks like it works better in less try’s and you can move it around better to get it right faster. So I ended up getting the lifevac. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be trying some of the others.
Can’t put a price on saving a your loved ones life’s when needed.

You are not doing the lifevac correctly. Look up lifevacs instructions

But she’s not handling the equipment correctly. You have to pull like someone’s life depended on it

I realised that she was handling it in some kind of delicate type of way.how is it gonna work like that?if this is how you are gonna handle it in a real-life threatening situation, then that's concerning😢

The AHA does NOT endorse any products. Did you take the course, or speaking as an AHA Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor, did the person certifying you have to get you through it. As a paramedic, I would be embarrassed doctor.

I have b o b punching bag and every couple of weeks I lay it on the floor and have my kids practice with the life vac.

Just like every other doctor, they don’t read instructions. They automatically think they know everything.

For last resort without these, what about a home vacuum?

I never saw either device in use at any emergency medical services agency nor hospital in my area. We had airway care training as part of basic lufe support. I did the Heimlich maneuver on myself when I choked on a steak; that was scary!

OK, pushing in with the suction around the mouth would cause whatever’s in the back of the throat to be pushed down further so I don’t understand the concept. If the reaction of pulling back can pull it out when the reaction of pushing it in do the same thing?

What I take from this is that both of the devices have the ability to work, but would be way more effective if there was a second pair of helping hands.

Is it supposed to be hard to push in because it seems really stiff and hard to push push the knob in to pull out?
