What has always stunned me is the absolute coldness, selfishness, and greed shown by some family members and friends when someone is passing. They can't wait for the person to be gone so they can get their hands on any money they believe is coming to them. Have you ever witnessed such behavior during a difficult time?

I made a promise to my parents many years ago, that I would not put them in a nursing home. When my stepdad died unexpectedly in March, I packed up my life in Texas and moved back to Virginia to help out my 76 yrs old mom. I’ll live with her until her time on earth is over.

My dear mother is now 102years old & it's been my joy & privilege to be her full time carer these past five years. I couldn't imagine her being out of my sight in a nursing home. We have become closer with the passage of time - this is my inheritance, the lovely times I've spent talking with her and enjoying meals and outings together. It's not always easy as I have a few physical disabilities of my own but the rewards overwhelmingly surpass any problems I might encounter. My siblings who don't see their mother are missing so much. It's a blessing to look after your Mum!

I raised my 3 children by myself after an abusive marriage. I worked hard to give them a good life. Now I'm 70 and my son wanted me to live with him he's a nurse and takes such good care of me and I know he'll never put me in a nursing home. All my children love me and I feel blessed

I am so heartbroken at how my children have betrayed me. I suffered a great deal from domestic violence injuries and yet they have put my late- husband on a pedestal making him their hero one even naming a son after him, a name I can no longer bear to even hear. Their treatment has ultimately caused me to choose peace. I have a wonderful life of peace and quiet. I know God loves me and will always take care of me; in fact I just threw my arms up in the midst of my place and said “Thank you Lord so much~ look at what You have done for me! This is all I need!” God is good even if your children are not. God is good all the time, all the time God is good!

I had the honor of taking care of my mother for the last three years of her life. She passed away in my home and I would do it all over again. My father passed too and I was able to be with him. Now, I take care of my disabled older sister.

I'm 62 and I have pretty bad arthritis. I made the mistake of giving up my apartment to live with my son. Then I ended up living living with my daughter. She's wanted to put me in a nursing home ever since. In 5 days time I'm moving into my own place for the first time in 10 years. I'm so excited! Never did I ever imagine being thought of as a burden but that is exactly how I feel. Family is everything until you are not needed anymore.

I am 82 years old. I live alone... by choice. I have two wonderful sons who contact me almost daily. They see that I have everything I need. They have their own families, their own lives and I am proud of them. I raised them to be good, productive citizens, good husbands, good fathers. I am active in my church and my community. I love to read my Bible first, then good uplifting books.

My mother once told me long ago, a mother and father can take care of 10 But 10 children cannot take care of one parent. My mom was with me until she died at 81. I was blessed to have her as she was one in a million and anyone who ever met her, loved her.

I love this. I am 82 now. I don't have Mildreds wealth but I do have the love of my family. They will get what little I have. I have shown my love to each of them in my own way. God who had been in the forefront of our lives has been so good to my whole family. He has provided for us by giving all of us what we need. With hard work and his abundant love we've all lived confortably. What Lisa and Roger forgot was true love instead of greed, which is the root of all evil. Kindness always wins. God bless.

My mother spent her last few years living in my home after her doctor told her she shouldn't live alone anymore. I was grateful to have that time with her as I was on disability. I loved hearing her talk about her younger years and stories about her brother always chasing her and they would jump from the upstairs balcony's. My grandparent's house was quite big with 6 or 7 balconies'. She passed away at 87, I miss her so much. 😔❤

This story hit close to home. I took care of my parents for 10 years. They died alone with only myself one of six children because siblings didn’t have time to be present. However, time was made to fight for their house. Luckily, my son in law stepped up to help me purchase the home. My parents wishes of never selling their home was fulfilled❤.

The family can't wait for the person to be gone and get their hands on any money they believe is coming to them. They don't even mourn the person! I've seen it in law over and over again. Makes me totally sick! In Mildred's case, I'm so happy to know that she had Sarah, Jack and their two children who truly did care about her. And she was able to show them how much she cared about them. I really believe her handwritten letter that Sarah read actually meant more than the fortune Mildred left them. I know it did. And Mildred taught her own greedy, selfish, evil children quite the lesson. Amen.
