Ranpo is one of those rare characters that act all high and cocky and arrogant but at the same time are completely justified in doing so. And you really love to see it, Ranpo IS amazing ^^

Little info about Ranpo:
Edogawa Ranpo (the irl person) is actually not his true name but his pen name, his true name is Tarō Hirai and is a huge admirer of Edgar Allan Poe. He is a fan of him that he makes his pen name 'Edogawa Ranpo' which is the japanese pronounciation of Edgar Allan Poe. E-do-ga (Edgar) wa-ran (Allan) po (Poe) .

Your reaction was basically all of my thoughts -- he's basically a savant and pours all of his focus into deduction. He's very arrogant, but there's something about him that I have to appreciate...I guess like his actual character in the show, eh? This is the episode that really got me on board with the show, but the next two episodes and the one after are what started to hook me! I can't wait for you to see them!

ok but 'fun' fact: Dazai wishing to have a double suicide with a girl is actually referenced to the real author Dazai Osamu who actually did a double suicide together with his wife and succeeded after 3 attempts. Dazai succeeded on their 3rd attempt by drowning in the canal near his house. :)

man, sad that ranpo's backstory is only in one of the unanimated light novels, but it basically explains everything about why he acts the way he does

Man this show is incredibly clever and entertaining. I feel like I'm being trolled every episode lol (I'm watching blind too). I personally don't mind Ranpo at all. He might even be my favorite character so far! The bros summed it up for me: "A Genius Chuunibyou Super Detective Asshole." THAT'S AMAZING!

Rampo's voice actor doesn't only voice Araragi, but he also voiced Levi (Attack on Titan), Yato (Norgaami), Izaya (Durarara), and many more! Btw, I really hope you guy would react to Durarara some time later. It's a legendary show :")

hey I noticed you questioning how the marble got in the bottle if it was too big, there's a type of drink in japan called ramune that has a marble in the neck of the bottle, you pop it down into the chamber to open it the first time. not sure why a marble, but it is in fact too large to get out by design

if you guys have heard of Dectective Conan, the main character uses Edogawa Conan as an alias, which is a reference to Edogawa Ranpo and Artthur Conan Doyle (the creator of Sherlock Holmes), the whole pushing up the glasses thing and saying "the criminal is you" while pointing dramatically at the villain is a thing he often does. And of course, narrating the events that lead to the crime.

Edogawa Ranpo the writer is the pen name of Hirai Tarou, a foundational figure in Japanese mystery literature, writing prolifically in the early to mid 20th century. The title of this episode is from one of his works, and other references show up here and there in the and holding off on saying anything more in case of spoilers.

Edit: I went and read the vol 3 of the Light Novel. I finally know why Ranpo is the way he is. He just skyrocketed in my personal popularity rankings for this series.

Even tho Ranpo is the super genius, Dazai also knew about almost everything in the case just by looking, so he is super smart too

The reason why ranpo acts the why he is because (from the light novel) fukuzawa and Ranpos backstory and how Fukuzawa (ADA president) basically raised him. Ranpos childhood was very different he had to grow up by himself most of the time hence him being older he still acts like a kid, childish and cocky because as a kid he never got to act that way in some sort. But ranpo is definitely a fan favorite and I’m glad you are both enjoying BSD !!
