bsd has both a manga and light novel series. the manga focuses on the main plot (atsushi & his adventures), while the light novels are side stories (the azure messenger arc, the dark era arc, and some more). the anime tries to adapt both the manga and some of the light novels. that's why this arc almost feels like a different story - because it is.

Dark Era is so iconic!! Dazai's whole demeanor and his darker psyche as well as his dynamics with people around him is truly masterful storytelling. He'S one complex character.

Bungou Stray Dogs as a title can be loosely translated as Stray Dogs of Japanese Classic Literature. Ango Sakaguchi, Osamu Dazai, Sakunosuke Oda - the three decadents of Japanese literature - can be considered as fitting that title because during the time of their lives they were often ostracized by other communities of writers and critics in japan because of their writing style and the topics their works tend to touch up, as they were considered to have strayed from the path of respectable proper writer. Years however, latter the Decadent School is considered as one of the most influential and important Japanese writer cliques that shaped the future of written works in Japan

I liked the last season, but this second season...has been AMAZING.

I loved your reaction -- I'm glad y'all are on the Oda Simp Train as well -- Oda is the BEST. One of my favorites in the show.
This "Dark Age;" the music, the atmosphere, the characters, the twists...

...There's SO much to love about this, and I can't wait to see your reactions to this arc!

Ah yes, the legendary Dark Age arc (one of my favorites). In a way, it definitely sets the tone for the rest of the season imo. Btw, the series is adapted from an ongoing manga, but this specific arc was from a light novel. They just decided to add it to the beginning of season 2 as a mini-arc.

this arc showcased dazai's character through odasaku in a way the show never could. i can't wait for you guys to reach the final episode of the arc!

Regarding the Watch thing, I thought Ango just meant it was the last transaction he had. Not that it by itself accounted for 72% of all profits, but that it was the last purchase of the 72% that quarter.

This backstory was the most interesting part of the show for me. I would have been happy if it was the whole show from the beginning.

You may not view the Port Mafia as very competent, but something to keep in mind going forward is that that view mostly comes from the perspective of the ADA (who are almost hyper-competent, strangely), and the Port Mafia's (mostly Akutagawa's) failure to capture Atsushi (who is the main character with plot armour/protected by the ADA). Just saying that getting too locked into the perspective that the Port Mafia is a small band of bumbling idiots with a slightly more competent leader might do you a disservice. Like you guys getting stuck on the numbers Ango mentioned and theorizing that the Port Mafia is therefore on the decline. Since Oda was talking over Ango's explanation, I kinda took that as a cue that it wasn't too serious/important. I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too much about this, sorry. Anyway, I really hope you guys are enjoying the series because your reaction series has definitely been brightening up my Sundays.
