to me it's crazy to think there's people who think dune's themes are "tired" or "have been done before", it's like, you saying the same thing about lord of the rings, when all you ever saw in your life have been disney live action remakes of princess movies

The Harkonnen Home world was incredible. The audio and the rock style anthems were sick!!

This is the shortest Dune related content in the history of anything related to Dune

I love your 80's style logo and intro. So nostalgic.

Great movie. Enjoyed it immensely. Looking forward to more retrospectives.

Correction Dune part1 AND part2 were shot on digital yes but then scanned to film after the VFX and editing was all done which gives the film its characteristic soft and dreamy look it was also shot on vintage lenses which enhances the soft look even further.

So nice to watch a movie that uses its long run time smartly, and doesn’t find the need to undermine the material with self-aware irony.

Hmm… It was a visual spectacle but disappointing after Dune 1. The pacing was all over the place, Walken and Pugh might as well not have been in it, the Harkonnens were far less menacing and reduced to cliched psychopaths, what happens over a time period of over two years in the book is now 6 months so Alia isn’t even born and they’ve ruined the relationship between Paul and Chani. It’s nothing like the masterpiece people think it is.

Villeneuve's dune makes me wish Lynch had the same watch time to play with.

Just FYI, Villeneuve shot it in digital - BUT, he transferred the digital to 35mm film - and then transferred that 35mm rendering back to digital - which is why it looks so damn good and has some of the softness of 35mm film - because the final version is actually coming from 35mm film. The HUGE benefit of this process is making the CGI effects look less "CGI" and takes away some of CGI's "too clean" look and it ends up looking more a part of the landscape with the actors. In addition to this, he intentionally uses a lot of foreground and background focusing techniques in the shots, so you end up having a "softer", more filmic effect on the CGI, in addition to the focus tricks. It's why, when you see it, you *believe* what you're seeing more than the usual all-digital, too-clean look of most CGI-fests these days, which tends to ignore perspective and focus and ends up looking like a phony jumble of too-crisp effects all within the same plane.

Overall, I still think Lynch created a much richer world. His costumes and set pieces were very memorable, and each House had their own unique look and feel. Not to mention Toto’s exciting score and Eno’s mystical Prophecy Theme. Given a larger budget and full control over final edit, I think Lynch could have pulled it off.

I've always felt that The Matrix sequels had some heavy Dune influences with the false prophecy used as a tool for manipulation, and Neo going blind like Paul in Dune Messiah, but still able to "see" by using his "powers".

It is officially okay to NOT have everything be just like the book. Hell, even Peter Jackson took some (tasteful) creative liberties with Tolkien's LOTR franchise. And they turned out great. It is universally known that Dune is a franchise that they said *can not* be adapted to the big screen. Well, if that's the case...whatever we just got on film was spectacular. It's also okay to enjoy the 84 version as well. Both have their own merits

I've seen the first one 5 times so far and 2 of the times were in the cinema. I'm going to see part 2 second time this weekend 😁

I've read the first Dune novel and when Dune part one came out I really enjoyed it. I rewatched it last week and watched the David Lynch film the next day. I really enjoyed Lynch's version, despite it being a total mess for the last 45 mins. The music, sets, costumes etc. are all awesome. I saw Dune Part Two the very next day and was not disappointed; I can't wait to see it again. I think both parts of the Villeneuve's adaption should be watched together and can understand why people who were not fans of the source material felt let down by part one a couple years ago. I look forward to Part Three, but feel that the first two parts tell a great story.

I rarely see a film more than once in theaters, but I've seen this three times. I highly recommend IMAX over another format if you have the means to see it. This film is a very solid 9 to 9.5/10 imo. Hopefully we will one day get Dune Messiah to round out the trilogy. I'm already counting down the days to the 4K release.

Ι have the impression that someone told to Javier Bardem to base his role on Anthony Quinn in Lawrence of Arabia.

Finally, there´s someone on my side - I also favor Toto´s (and Eno´s) soundtrack versions. ;)
