Book reader here. He said he's wants to make Messiah. The first two books are very much the story of Paul and i think it would be worth making and having a proper ending

Fans of the book don't "feel" it changed things. It did change things lol

As a book-purist, my main gripe is with DV rushing the central portion of the movie. In the book it takes 4-5 years for Paul to get to the point that he draws the Emperor to Dune. The movie did it in less than 6 months. This means we have no Alia, no systematic destruction on the Harkonnen operations, along with none of their infighting and politicking. More importantly, there is no relationship built between Paul and Chani or Jessica and Chani. She never gets to learn how Imperial politics work from Jessica, so she is never prepared for Paul having to make an arranged marriage. She just throws a hissy fit, like the teenager she still is, rather than being the adult Fremen she should be.
That said, I think that these two films are far and away the best Sc-Fi we've seen in years. Although I personally feel that it should be a trilogy, with the last half of Pt3 doing the story of Dune Messiah, which is very much an epilogue to the first book.

I actually hope there is a director's cut cause I felt it needed another hour for more character building. The emperor and Harkonens should have been expanded on more IMO.

Dune Messiah will break a lot of the normies

Notwithstanding the current movie drought, I would say that even in terms of sci-fi epics, scale of production, cinematography, love to detail, thematic development and performances, the movie certainly stands out as something special.

Rendezvous With Rama would be perfect movie for Villneuve to make. That movie would be all about visuals and 2.5 hours is more than enough to tell that story.

I recently rewatched Edge of Tomorrow. 10 years ago I watched it and thought it was ok. But seeing it now it’s become a much better movie. It’s a shame what’s happening to modern entertainment.

Dune just isn't made to be some sort of "popcorn film."

David Lynch's Dune is an 80's sci-fi classic with its Steampunk style, grandiose film score, surreal visuals, quirky characters - the red haired Harkonnens make great baddies, the Baron being repulsive, etc.. It does a good job at relating the story ... despite a lot of it being edited out.... and Lynch himself disliking it. Again, it was the ignorant critics of the time that slated it and a bewildered public that probably expected an easy to follow Star Wars movie for the kiddies.

Don't forget that there was a SciFi channel miniseries of Dune as well. I recall it being pretty good.

I think the director want to do Dune Messiah

Even part 2 should have a part 3, and I don't mean the Next book. They compressed 2 years to 6 months, cut & changed the whole Sister plot to fit the time scale... Best we're going to get so Enjoy for all it's worth.

The 1984 movie was intentionally gothic. A decision I still respect. I also love the Villeneuve productions. If they seem plodding or slow, it is because we are no longer accustomed to grand, sweeping storytelling in the style of Sir David Lean. This is not Star Wars; it's Lawrence of Arabia.

"Christopher Walken is underutilised" [4:35]
So, no song & dance routine? "Walk without rhythm, it won't attract the worm"?

I wish the _Dune_ story had been split into three parts, rather than two. the plot felt more and more rushed as _Part 2_ went on.

…and then make _Messiah_ into the fourth movement to finish things off, like a symphony 👌

shoulda been a 3 part film saga, part 1 fall of house atredies, part 2 rise of the Muhadib, part 3 the rise of Kwizatz Hadarach. They could have spent a whole film focusing on just Paul's transformation into a true Fremen

I'm worried that the critics who need something to hate will pull back their previous approval of this, or else needlessly disapprove of this film as if they feel its expected of them. This movie was awesome, and so were the books.
