You forgot a serious aspect of the discussion and that’s quality and longevity. They said the same thing back when I ordered my ipad pro in 2018. In the mean time the people around me asking me why I didn’t just get a cheaper model had to replace theirs multiple times while mine wont die even after constant usage for 8 years. The quality is just better they last longer, got a much better oled screen, speakers, you name it.

These are all Apple products lets forget "value for money"
Ipad pro is significantly better due to stuff like Oled, 120hz pro motion display
Significantly better speakers, microphones and cameras
The ipad pro will also last you longer
Apart from these major upgrade there are several smaller but useful things to note such as face id support, thunderbolt 4, higher base storage and more ram, optional nano texture display

So yeah you pay extra and you do get extra indeed
