I'm 2 mins into this and so far you've not name dropped any artists, but I sang "Beautiful Things" yesterday by Benson Boone which is one of the most popular songs out right now and I remember thinking to myself... this guy is gonna regret this song when he's older. I've not long done a bunch of Bon Jovi covers and when doing research noticed he can't sing his own songs anymore, but the belty bits of that Benson Boone song are not healthy. Also, modern audiences seem obsessed with "rasp" like it's some holy grail of singing. Everyone always comments on rasp and those songs seem to be the ones that grab peoples attention.

2 of the greatest female singer/songwriters from USA and UK Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush were both heavy smokers.- probably in part to deal with the pressures of fame.
