I was on hitch when my daughter took her first steps, saw it on a video. This song hits home. Stay strong brothers. They’ll understand one day.

8 week hitches never get any easier. 600 miles away. Loving family back home that are willing to drop their lives and join daddy in the field so he can be home with them at night. God bless my brothers who don’t get this option.

Oh how this song gets me right in the heart! My husband worked in the oilfield from 1975 when we got married til about 2020. He worked as a roughneck, worked derricks, motorman, also as a flowback operator and as a mud logger, and also as a consultant. I tried not to cry as he was leaving for another hitch and knowing he might be gone for weeks or months at a time. I would wait til he was several miles down the road before crying. All the time saying as he was leaving, turn around and come back. He always said as he was leaving for a job, "I might as well go now or I might not go." He told me just a few days ago that the first few miles down the road from home that he always started to turn around and come home. But that he knew he had a family to take care of! We have been married 49 years, so most of our married life he worked in the oilfield in one capacity or another. To me oilfield guys are heroes, they miss and sacrifice so much, it is tough! I have a cousin that spent most of his married life in oilfield also and he recently retired and him and his wife have been married for about 46 years and they had two children just like we did.And we as their wives, learn to handle so much on our own while loving and being their support!

My old man was like this when I was growing up. Always out of town working at refineries or oil rigs. It was pretty tough with my father barely being there but now I’m in the industry and understand everything! Thank you dad love ya ❤️🤘

Did 32 yrs in the patch, the words resinate so much. Was able to retire at 55 and now make up for the things I missed. My son followed me into the oilfield and now knows the sacrifices made to give his family the best life possible. Would not change a thing. Great experiences many countries worked and great people worked alongside. Respect to all who work away from home. Be safe, be happy, be healthy.

My dad works in the oilfields and this song just made me even more grateful. Hard working man and still tries to make time with his kids.
