One thing amazing about this channel’s YT shorts is how they build on concepts taught by previous ones, rather than just cranking out the same few clickbait beginner tips on a loop to generate the most views. One thing I struggle with when using boxes is applying the human body on top of them, like "ok, now I have a general guide, but how do I use it effectively?"

I struggle a LOT with simplifying the hips, i never know which direction my box is supposed to be facing, especially when my character is sitting.

Boxes are pretty complicated for me i feel like drawing guidelines that resemble that body part a bit is less complicated and easier to follow

Actually, curving forms is fine if you know what you're doing.

There's nothing wrong with practicing adherence to solids though, just be aware that every exercise practices a very specific thing, much like you don't insert "curves" or "gestures" into box drawings.

I still can't quite wrap my head around horizon lines and vanishing points. Like I get that they're important to draw in perspective correctly but they make my non-existent brain go ouchie :(

Once you're comfortable with doing boxes I say the next best step is to actually transform them into curved shapes (like the one he crossed out). It gives you dimension and softness that the boxes are lacking

The biggest struggle for me when drawing boxes is how to actually place the real forms inside them... I think you have a video on this, and I'm fairly certain it mostly means I need to do more anatomy studies and draw more from life/models in front of me... but man, I don't know how a head or pelvis fit INSIDE the box lol

Im never going to draw boxes, i think it will just make it worse and more confusing for me. When in doubt, use references!!
