Hey everybody! Today we're checking out some cherry-picked motherboard options from MSI - my personal picks for your AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU, specifically the Ryzen 7 7800X3D which is probably the most highly sought-after CPU right now!

We'll be going over key features of five different X670E and B650 motherboards including a mini-ITX option and working out which one is best depending on your budget.

Thanks to @AMD and @MSIGamingOfficial for their input and support for this video!

Title should have been best "MSI" motherboard.

I went with the X670E Tomahawk since it was on sale for $279 at the time. Seemed a no brainer.

Former X670E Carbon Wifi user checking in! I've used the Carbon Wifi for 7-8 months, my CPU died. Sent everything in for service, motherboard came back without issues.

I got an X670E Aorus Master board as I got sick of waiting for the motherboard back. I have to say, it feels like a competely different class of product. If you can afford the slight price increase, and can fit an E-ATX motherboard in your case, don't even think about it. Go for the Aorus Master.

X670E Tomahawk has been the best AM5 board for me in terms of BIOS features, RAM stability and overall firmware/software. It was released only a few months ago, quite a bit later than B650 and especially X670(E) boards, which gives it the benefit of being more mature. Better stability than Gigabyte Aorus and Asus Gene.

The case front panel takes care of USB, for which X670E has 2x 3.2 Type A (instead of 1 on Carbon) and more 2.0 than most cases have anyway. I connected 2x 3.2 + 2x 2.0 + 1x type-C 20Gb to my Fractal Design case, which gives in total 10 type-A and 3 type-C.
It also goes for 290$ on Newegg right now, same price as Carbon.

PCIE bandwidth in the past has made my old systems age faster, my 2600k I got rid off partly because PCIE 2.0 became limiting for the GPU, 6700k and Z170 I recently sold because it's only PCIE 3.0 and can't do rebar (aka SAM) which makes a huge difference. For that same reason B450 AM4 boards are now much less desirable than B550. I don't understand recommending PCIE 4.0 board, which almost guaranteed will become a limiting factor during AM5 lifespan when one can get PCIE 5.0 board with twice the bandwidth for the same money.
And B650 Carbon will limit the GPU to PCIE 4.0x8, basically PCIE 3.0x16 bandwidth if you have M.2 in slot 2 or 3! Come on, that is not good, that is a bigger downside than all upsides that board has combined.

I get buing 125$ B650 boards with PCIE 4.0, not 300$ ones. For that price it's only B650E and X670E.

Some extra features on Carbon like clear cmos button on back pannel and toolless M.2 slot do not overweight the drawbacks at all. But Carbon looks nicer, I'll give it that :)
2 more power phases on Carbon makes no difference either, these chips don't pull much power anyway, 20 or 16 or 14 or 12 phases it's all the same.

Best explanation I've seen of real-world differences between B650 and X670! I kinda agree that a high-end B650 is probably going to be better than low end X670 for a few reasons. I'm probably the niche in that I have three M.2s so X670 was the way to go for me!

I`m happy with my B650 Carbon and the 7800x3d.
Msi needs to fix there bios for the SOC voltage.
Got the newest beta bios and by enabling EXPO SOC goes up to 1, 425v...way to high.
i change it to 1, 15v... for now it`s

One thing you need to take into consideration is if you want to run a 10gbe network card, then you really need a 2nd pcie x16 slot that can handle the bandwidth. This may be a case for getting the 670e or 650e.

I've had my computer for many years and you may just wan that pcie 5.0 port because most games are GPU limited and you may want to upgrade 5 years down the road and keep your current CPU.

Good roundup A lot of people think X670E is always better but the Tomahawk and Carbon B650 are way better value even with high-end CPUs

Thanks a lot! But forget about comparing the VRRs to each other! and The Ram Max support.

Probably worth pointing out that you are comparing their top-end B650 motherboard to their entry-level X670e motherboard. They are the same price in Europe.

I went with the X78003dx and paired it with the newer (Nov. 2023) Gigabyte X670E Aorus Pro X. Obviously this video is older then the board's release but what are your thoughts on this board? My last two builds over the past 8 years have been gigabyte and i've really like them overall. MSI is my other favorite, as I don't deal with Asus any longer which was my favorite 10 years ago...

I ordered the MPG X670E Carbon Wifi, had a feature I needed which is 2 19 pin front panel USB 3.0 ports on the board as my case (Corsair 7000D) has 4 USB ports on the front and I can eliminate an addon card for the other port. Dumping my ASUS board due to issues with it. This will be my first time using MSI motherboards I've always used Gigabyte and switched to Asus for my 5800x and 7950x, but the current issues plaguing Asus (and my board) lead me to switch. Great video though and a good explanation of the different features on the different boards.

Keep in mind a lot of people are using usb c hubs for many of their peripherals so they only have one wire running to the pc.

The title should be "What's the BEST MSI MOTHERBOARD for AMD's Ryzen 7 7800X3D?". This is misleading and not really helpful.

Whatever fits the am5
Just get one that fits your budget and if you're going high end then its obvious, the cashe is sensite to heat in terms of volts so u dont need a motherboard that has the option to overclock, could do more damage than good

B650 mag tomahawk has 6 sata ports and didnt go cheap on audio connectirs

Why spend so much time discussing USB ports from @12:10 to @16:24 when we are looking for the best motherboard to match with the Ryzen 7 7800x3d? Actually the entire video is really just comparing mobo's and not explaining how these boards take advantage of one of the hottest gaming CPU's. Disappointing video and misleading title.
