In my experience, the main differences in motherboards are features and software, including the BIOS. Power delivery and VRM cooling, huge factors in motherboard testing these days, are way down on the list for me because I am not focused on overclocking and have never had a power delivery or heat issue with any board. Most of my boards lately have been Gigabtye, for one positive reason and one non-negative reason: On the positive side, I've been able to get the best price on Gigabyte graphics cards, and using the same company's motherboards makes for less fiddly synching of RGB. On the not-negative side, I have no particular reason to not choose Gigabyte.

I have used multiple brands without issues. But, based upon reviews, the quality seems to vary more between products than between companies. For instance, MSI used low quality power delivery on most Zen+ motherboards while MSI motherboards for Zen 2 had the best power delivery overall for Zen 2..

Gigabyte has come along way while Asrock is on the downhill, MSI offers usually better value then ASUS but in the end it really doesn't matter that much.

As an ASRock X570 Taichi owner I can confidently say the Polychrome software is the worst RGB software ive ever used and should be killed with hellfire.

That being said it looks amazing and has a great bios.

I typically have gone with Asus in the past, however for Z390 I went with EVGA and have been very happy with its performance.

Been buying mostly Asus boards since I bought an Asus P3B-F back in 1999. Had a good experience with every Asus board I've owned. I've owned a few Abit boards and I really miss them. They were pioneers back in their day with the first jumperless bios. Gigabyte makes some good boards too, I've had a couple of them over the years.

There is no best manufacturer, whichever one offers the better deal completely depends on the price point and the chipset. Sometimes its msi, sometimes asus, sometimes gigabyte and sometimes asrock. They all offer good boards, they all offer terrible boards as well.

Im using 3700X on an msi x570 gaming plus, a board thats widely known to be terrible compared to other boards around the same price, but in the end i have all the features i need and have ran into 0 issues. Ofcourse with this VRM i cannot upgrade to a zen3 ryzen 9, but i dont need an upgrade for a long time anyway, and when i do i'll likely build an entire new system anyway since by that time i'll also need a new gpu, ddr5 ram and probably a new power supply as well.
So yeah, dont think too much about your motherboard, as long as its compatible, has the features you want, and the VRM doesnt overheat if you want to run an i9 or r9.

Asus was the first motherboard manufacturer that paid attention to quality components for regular consumers. In my 20+ years building PC for myself and friends, I never had a signal Asus board failed. Nowadays, most top 4 tech mentioned are really good and with quality components. Actually msi seems to use better components than their peers with this generation of processors. I do have a bad experience with msi motherboard way back 15 years ago. So I might still be sticking with Asus or asrock. My rule of thumb, if Asus is the same price as the others, I'll always will buy the Asus motherboard. If not. Look at the components of each board in your choices. Which one offers the best components and features for the price.

Back at the beginning of the year when I compiled the parts list for my pc, I had no idea where to begin with the various manufacturers out there. I ended up with a Strix board because Asus was the closest thing to a known quantity for me at the time, so I think that kind of brand recognition is part of what lets them get away with the Asus tax.

subscribed. I really like the delivery of this content! A down to earth look at a consumers side of it.

I have been waiting for this! I would like to see an extensive video on this subject when considering motherboard longevity, rate of failure and consistency among their manufacturers, especially for AMD.

I have 2x MSI, 1x Gigabyte, 1x Asrock, never tried Asus before because they are way too over-priced. Only mobo that died on me was a Gigabyte from a bloated cap. Speaking from personal experience, I would choose Asrock nowadays. The UEFI layout looks better and they are fast to push out new Bios. I never had any problem with Asrock, rock stable. I just recently got another Asrock A520 mobo. Hope it's good as well.

Crazy thing is that only the ASUS B550-E has USB-C front support.
The B550-F and others do not.
Which given the price they are seems a bit odd, especially as pretty much every MSI board at that price range has

I like msi due to their huge compatibility with pretty much any ram or ssd (others might have it too) but I wouldn't risk to purchase certain components which might end up not being compatible with each other, I'd break them to pieces lol, I'll stick around with msi for a few more builds until I acquire more knowledge in components 😉
