Fun fact: when the Simpsons debuted on the BBC in November 1996 (when the majority of the UK had not seen it before unless they subscribed to Sky TV)), this was the episode they chose to open with.

What's funny is that the perfect family is in the family therapy later in the episode

That "electro terapy" was so iconic, that it was shown in the background of the movie "Die Hard 2" (1990); like if it was something you could watch on a plane stuck in the air over _Washington Dulles International Airport_ on Xmas Eve.
-> Since this episode was originally aired on January 28, 1990 ; it means either the movie happens in the near future; or in that cinematic universe the Simpsons episode was released on December 24, 1989 [5 weeks earlier].

I know this wasn't your first video, and you created your channel before starting these, but hard to believe it's been nearly a decade since you started Simpsons reviews. I still remember when I first discovered you back in 2013 from your Top 10 Futurama Episodes countdown. I really liked it, and once I saw more of your channel, I became hooked onto your content. Since it's been nearly a decade since you started this, do you have anything planned for a 10 year anniversary of reviewing Simpsons?

just binged watched all of these like the last guy 3 weeks ago haha, and i was meant to study! if i fail my exam at least i can die knowing i watched a whole bunch of 60 second reviews of Simpsons episodes. kudos mate, i hope you have plans of doing more! subscribed.

Totally agree with you that the characterization was quite off during the ep (even though the show was still young) and the shock therapy scene is the most redeeming moment of the episode

Ladies and gentlemen realjim’s first ever Simpson’s episode

This is one of my favorite episodes in the series, and it would be even without the electrotherapy scene.
Hell, I usually rerember it by Homer pawning the TV and his pitch to the guy behind the counter.

You can tell this was a first season episode as the character dynamics were clearly not set just yet. Everyone in the family except Homer acts out and he is the embarrassed normal one. Yes, he is trying to gain favor at work, but he earnestly wants to get help to try and work on his family. Total contrast to what you would see in future seasons once things evolved with the exception of Bart.
