The Simpsons, you are the only TV show in the world who can take a wonderful season like Christmas and turn it into a problem. Maybe Lucy's right. Of all the Simpsons episodes in the world, you're the Charlie Brown-iest.

I don't hate this episode, but I definitely see why people can hate it. The Simpsons get knocked down over and over again to the point that it stops being funny.

I really like this episode its one of the funniest and its such a good satire on the saccharine mush that you get in every other Christmas special. Like my mum who hates the Simpsons, even she laughed at the end because its the prefect put down to the "Well at least we have each other" "BUT WE WOULD OF HAD EACH OTHER ANYWAY"!

Lisa should have seen through Bart's lies since she's the brian in the family and she's aware that Bart had been drinking twelve glasses water just to get him up early so he can open presents without the family and should tell the family in the first place before the neighbours got together.

The first act was solid and I liked Lisa trying to strangle Bart, but I hated the episode because it was so so mean-spirited.

Love the song at the end of this episode. Bob Wills SANTA'S ON HIS WAY. I used to think it was Gene Autry.

Marge, I asked before the game if you understood the rules, and you said yes.

Question: What if Bart told the truth when Marge asks Bart what happened?
Let me guess: The Simpsons family disowning him.

This was a pretty special episode. I think it might have been somewhat grounded in the "Santa's Little Helper" episode, there also Christmas clichees were twisted. This one however seemed to try and do it better and harder. You can say that they tried to kick you in the balls HARD!

Great review, but I wouldn't call the ending "sweet". More like "bitter" (Don't want to spoil it.)

This episode supposedly is one of the only episodes that got a TV G rating, which is below its usual TV PG rating. I didnt think the episode was that appropriate, there was a scene where krusty steals from the medicine cabnet showing he depends on drugs. It used the word "hell" a couple times and I believe I heard bart say "crap" near the beginning of the episode, I think it deserves its usual TV PG rating.

Can a plastic Christmas tree catch fire like that?

I like Miracle on Evergreen Terrace; it has that 'There's No Disgrace Like Home'/'Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield' type of aftertaste ending. Like “We don't care, we're the Simpsons!” Classic moment.

One of my least favourite episodes, so mean spirited and depressing bar the ending

I dislike the episode. Almost like rollercoaster good and bad moments happening to The Simpsons.

I detest this episode. I watched it again just last night for the sake of Christmas thinking that it would age well now that Season 9 is 25 years old and it’s just a nasty, grouchy, cold, cynical, poorly written, poorly structured, bitter affair that hurts to watch. Before this episode I watched Marge Be Not Proud, and the drop in quality from that episode to this one is astounding. Marge Be Not Proud is a literal masterpiece that deals with a mean-spirited concept but ties it all in in a way where you can tell it has a huge heart. This episode’s just a fucking asshole that goes so over the top with its concept that it sabotages its own viewing experience.

If you ask me, this is really the episode that signaled the decline in quality for the show, not The Principal & The Pauper.

I didn't know it was such a disliked episode. I love it. The holidays can be a hellish time, and the traditional "happy, cheery, everyone loves each other" Christmas specials tropes don't reflect the hectic, cynical reality. This one does.

So do you like it or not also review a newer season episode

Am I the only person that likes this episode?

I think what makes this episode work for me is that it's too silly to take seriously. None of the characters are particularly very sad. & if the characters aren't really that sad than I don't fully see how it's mean-spirited.
