b= -8
c= k

(Alpha) square + (Beta) square =40

Alpha + Beta = -b/a = -(-8)/1 = 8
(Alpha)(Beta) = c/1 = k/1= k

(A + B)square = (A)square +(B)square +2AB
(A)square +(B)square = (A+B)square -2AB

So, (Alpha + beta)square -2(alpha)(beta)=40
(8)square -2k =40
64-2k= 40
-2k = 40-64=-24
K= -24/-2
K= 12

We also write, a²+b²-2ab
a+b=8 , a×b=k
(a+b)² - 2ab =40
8² - 2k =40
