Sabine Hossenfelder is a German theoretical physicist and research fellow at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies. Known for her work in phenomenology, her research interests include physics beyond the standard model, modifications of general relativity, and the foundations of quantum mechanics. Hossenfelder is also a prominent science communicator, sharing her insights into the complexities of physics and the philosophy of science with a broader audience through her blog, "Backreaction," and her YouTube channel. She has contributed significantly to discussions on the scientific and ethical implications of technological advancements and the role of beauty in physics. Hossenfelder's critical perspective on the current state of theoretical physics, especially her critique of the field's focus on aesthetic criteria, has sparked considerable debate. She is the author of "Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray," where she argues that the pursuit of elegant theories may be hampering progress in understanding the universe.

For those saying, "It's meaningless nonsense" AND those saying, "It's about our eternal spirituality" (or whatever...), let's all remember that this is just a very, very tiny fraction of a much longer and more in-depth discussion, which in turn refers to studies, research, and theories.

To draw *any* conclusions of the validity of her argument based on a few seconds of the interview is, well, just plain silly.

Scariest part is that its likely that a human brain isnt even able to comprehend the information we‘re looking for.

This is how a balanced mind sounds. When both of the hemispheres of the brain are engaged and cooperating, this is how a person is capable of perceiving.

Rarely can a scientist keep such an open mind and so much humility at the same time. I am impressed!

Sabine's way to explain physics is amazing. She's a deep thinker. Her book 'Existential Physics' is an exciting pleasure to read.

Amazing insight Sabrina! Thanks for sharing, I definitely have felt this first hand and I appreciate it’s significance in terms of how we need to disorient our current stable belief patterns

Our existence is deeply intertwined with both our genetic heritage and our life experiences. The genetic information passed down through generations shapes our physical and biological makeup, connecting us to our ancestors across time. Meanwhile, our experiences, memories, and actions contribute to the ongoing evolution of ourselves and our environment, influencing future generations in ways we may not fully comprehend. In this sense, our existence transcends time as we are not only a product of the past but also contributors to the future, continuously shaping the trajectory of human history.

Our existence, and the fact that it is maintained, is shocking.

Why should we assume that is the norm, or default ?

My understanding is that sensory perception is too slow for us to experience anything that happens as it happens. Therefore, our consciousness exists beyond the time-space continuum. Our consciousness not only exists beyond the time-space world, it is the only thing that never changes. All matter in the universe changes, but not consciousness. The great truth is that what does not change is eternal. Your consciousness may be aware of the time-space dimension, but it is also aware of your dreams while you are sleeping and it is what is aware in the NDE’s as well.

If more people would realize that it is a fundamental difference whether somebody is intelligent enough to simply follow and use complex logical rules - like you do in mathematics - and being an 'Intellectual' who is capable of surfing the vast landscape of the human condition (with emotions, subjective impressions, taste, priorities, values, flaws, cravings etc. - not to speak of concepts like 'art') the world would be a better place. This is something especially the 'nerd' culture of 'hard science' of physics etc. with protagonists who often struggle to even have a relevant social life mostly ignores or considers as 'irrelevant'. But what is exactly what makes us 'human' compared to a 'Vulcan' like in Star Trek. 'Nerds' are fundamentally and permanently overestimating the human mind's capabilites to 'understand' our being. And they avoid to become reminded of this fundamental limitation, that philosophers have stated a long time ago already, by simply focusing on 'how things work', while being mostly ignorant on the question 'what does it all mean and what is the goal and purpose of being'.
